Scholarship Opportunity:
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Foundation is offering a $2000 oncology nursing academic scholarship for future nurses in Ohio and West Virginia supported by Oncology Practice Alliance, Inc. Students in the basic BSN, BS/BA to BSN, and RN to BSN programs who are residents of Ohio or West Virginia are eligible to apply. GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS:
The American Cancer Society, the largest not-for-profit funding source for cancer research and training, is pleased to invite applications from master's and doctoral students for support of graduate study. The society offers scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $15,000. Please note that the doctoral scholarship application annual deadline has changed to October 15. The master’s scholarship's annual deadline is February 1. The Society offers several other research and training grants in addition to the ones described above. HEALTH SCIENCE LIBRARY ADDITION:
The Health Sciences Library is pleased to announce the addition of a new electronic resource called OT Search. This database brings the literature of occupational therapy together in one place and it includes related subjects such as rehabilitation, education, psychiatry/psychology and health care delivery/administration. Although the full text of the indexed resources is not in OT Search, it does contain the bibliographic information to identify the material and the author’s abstract when one exists. COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Local volunteers are needed to read with children, help serve meals, donate supplies for the program and much more for Americorps Energy Express, associated with the West Virginia University Extension Service. Ages Pre-Teen through Adult volunteers are needed at Brookhaven and Riverside Elementary Schools. “Energy Express. . . Volunteer needed to drive 87 years old man to Wal-Mart, grocery store and VFW, approximately 3 hours twice a week. Lives on Halleck Rd., near intersection with Tom’s Run Rd. Will reimburse for gasoline, or car is available at the gentleman’s house. May work for community service hours or for pay at 10.00/ hour. Hospice Care Corporation is currently accepting applications for adult buddies for the 11th annual bereavement camp, Camp Nabe. Camp Nabe is designed to help children 7 - 17 with the grieving process. We are accepting 35-40 children to camp this year. Each child is paired up with an adult buddy that stays along side the campers for the entire weekend. This gives
the children a chance to open up and express their feelings to an adult, while also forming a lasting friendship. Camp Nabe is going to be held at Camp Dawson in Preston County, June 30th - July 2nd. The Village at Heritage Point needs an exercise instructor. The class is held Monday through Friday, 9a – 10a and consists of a systematic stretching of the muscles and joints with focus on a full range of motion. The class is offered to assisted living patients, all of whom are over 70. Class size runs from 4 – 15 participants. Pay would be $10 per class.
