WVU AMONG UNIVERSITIES LEADING WAY IN COMMUNITY SERVICE
WVU is among the best in the nation when it comes to community outreach, according to a new federal program recognizing schools that have answered the call to service. WVU was one of three schools in the state to be recently named to the 2006 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll - and the only one in West Virginia to receive a distinction for general community service. In its inaugural year, the honor roll recognizes colleges and universities with students who have provided exceptional volunteer service.
We all know how much community service our nursing students contribute. Congratulate yourself for contributing heavily to this honor!
RECREATION CENTER OFFERS FREE PERSONAL TRAINING SESSIONS
WVU’s Student Recreation Center is now offering free personal training sessions for its members. Sessions are up to one hour and are designed to help members set fitness goals and show them how to achieve those goals, said Colleen Harshbarger, the Rec Center’s manager of fitness, wellness and informal recreation. To schedule a personal training session, visit the upstairs fitness desk in the Rec Center or call Nancy Oliverio, 293-5065. More on the Intranet: http://intranet.wvu.edu
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! WVUH CHILDREN’S HEALTH FAIR – APRIL 14!!
This is the fun Health Fair – you can wear your scrubs, receive double hours and interact with the thousands of children who attend the Fair – we will be doing blood pressures and playing safety and nutrition games along with Tic-Tac-Toe. Our objectives at this Health Fair are to talk to the kids about nutrition and safety and let them know that nurses are fun and kind and wonderful, not just the person who gives them shots or sees them when they are sick or hurt. We have also been asked to help with some of the characters that walk around the Mall and visit with the kids. The Fair runs from 10a – 5p with a few minutes of cleanup at the end. Please sign up for a minimum 3.5 hour shift, 10a – 1:30 and 1:30 – 5p. You are welcome to work the entire Fair if you want. Please e-mail bjurick@hsc.wvu.edu to sign up.
