DON'T FORGET!

SPRING FORWARD! DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS AT 2AM SUNDAY MORNING!
Remember to advance your clocks and watches one hour March 8. You can make up that hour of sleep you're going to lose when Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 1.
Spring is coming!

COUNTDOWN TO SPRING:
16 DAYS until Spring arrives on March 20.
10 DAYS until your Spring Break (officially) arrives!

CHILDREN'S HEALTH FAIR IS COMING! SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 10a - 5p
This is the fun health fair! Thousands of kids will visit the Morgantown Mall to participate in all the fun and healthy activities. The School of Nursing will be having nutrition and safety quizzes, blood pressures for the kids (and parents if they want) and our famous low-tech tic-tac-toe game for the kids, along with prizes for our winners. Our main goal is for kids to see nurses in a happy setting. Too often kids see nurses when they are getting shots or are sick. We all know nurses can be fun! We will have 2 shifts, from 9:30a - 1:30p and 1:30p - 5:30p. You are welcome to work the entire shift if you would like. Dress code will be scrubs. Since this Health Fair is on Saturday, you will receive double community service hours. Please email bjurick@hsc.wvu.edu to sign up for the Children's Health Fair. Additionally, we have always helped other booths with their displays and many of our students have appeared as costumed characters. It's just a fun day and a great way to practice your patient skills with the little ones!

FALL REGISTRATION IS COMING! HOW CAN THAT BE?

WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY VIETNAM & CAMBODIA SUMMER COURSE
If you are thinking about international travel this summer, now is the time to begin planning, hence the reason for this travel update.
Travel plans are approved by the Office of International Programs at WVU. Students from West Virginia University and students from other universities who want to enroll in this travel course at WVU will spend three weeks at An Giang University in Southern Vietnam and a week touring in Cambodia as well. It is anticipated that the course will be one month in length.
You will spend three weeks in Vietnam focusing on issues of community health for social workers. Classes will be populated both with US, Vietnamese, and Cambodian students giving you the opportunity to exchange ideas and interact with your peers from another country. A good portion of your time will be spent outside of the classroom using the country as your classroom, visiting social service agencies and engaging with the culture of Vietnam. Trips are being planned to the southern provinces, Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City, Long Xuyen and Ha Tien in extreme southern Vietnam.

Not only will you learn about social work in Vietnam and Cambodia but you will also learn informally about Vietnamese and Camodian culture, history, and politics. Weekends and some weekdays will be spent exploring markets, going to festivals, and visiting museums and places of historical interest.

Your last week will be spent in Cambodia and culminate with a visit to Angkor Wat. This temple complex has been described as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and will be an unforgettable experience.

Faculty for this course will include Jim Keim, MSW, of the Southeast Asia Children's Project; Susan Newfield, PhD, RN, of the School of Nursing; Neal Newfield, PhD, ACSW, and Chatman Neely, MSW, LICSW, of the Division of Social Work; James Keresztury, MSW, MPA, of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center; and faculty and staff from An Giang University. The ratio of students to instructors will be low and no more than twelve US students will be enrolled in this course.

Undergraduates will be awarded six credits of electives in social work for this course. Graduates students can earn three credits. You do not have to be a social work major to apply for admission to this course. Since this is an extended learning course, tuition is $50.00 per credit hour for both in-state and out-of-state students.

The estimated cost of this course excluding meals and travel medicine costs is $5100.00. This price will pay for all of your airfare, in-country travel, including taxis and lodging, and WVU tuition. Meals will be out-of-pocket and should cost less than $6.00 a day. A month abroad for this price is remarkable. Student loans and a limited number of scholarships are available for this course.

Are you interested in this opportunity? Please e-mail me at nnewfiel@wvu.edu You can register for this course with the Office of International Programs at: http://www.wvu.edu/~intlprog/faculty_led/facultyled.htm Applications can be filled out on line.
If you are a graduate student who is interested and have particular academic interests let me know and these may be accommodated.
Not sure if you are ready for this type of travel? Stay in touch with us through the Vietnam Initiative Club and get to know Vietnamese students on campus and students who have traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia. Come to our Tet party January 31st (RSVP at 288-4419 or e-mail me at nnewfiel@wvu.edu). Keep in touch by going to my web page at http://web.mac.com/nealnewfield/ See photos of Vietnam and Cambodia and read the student blog.

KEEP BRINGING YOUR USED PC CARTRIDGES TO HEALTH RESTORATION
We continue to raise funds for the Humane Society – The small pc cartridges we are donating are worth around $1 and the large cartridges bring in $4 each – This continues to be a worthwhile project, saving the animals and the landfill as well. The Humane Society truly appreciates your efforts! This is a year round project! Unfortunately, the need never goes away!
