Message of the Week
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CLASS OF 2008!
Many of you are leaving Morgantown to begin your great adventures as nurses, but we are not quite ready to let you go! So, let's stay in touch this summer! Let us know where you are, what you're doing and we will share your information in the Message of the Week - this would be a great way for you to hear what your classmates are doing as well and establish contacts with them. So e-mail me, bjurick@hsc.wvu.edu with all the information you want to share and I'll put it in the Message. You'll make a difference in the world - we want to share in that wonder! Congratulations and best wishes to each of you! DENVER KITS MISSING AND NEED TO BE RETURNED!
Please Contact Gail ASAP if you still have any Denver Kits out. She is missing 7
and will be very forgiving for any returns. These cost the school a lot of money each
year. After June 3rd they can be returned to Brenda Deane in HPRR on the 6th floor.
A GREAT IDEA FROM SNA IF YOU PLAN TO DO SOME TRAVELING THIS SUMMER!
Please collect the toiletry items (shampoos, soap, even the instant coffee) you don't
use from the hotels you stay in. You can bring these items back to school and place
them in the collection box in Academic Affairs (in front of Brandy's desk) either
during the summer or when you get back to school. SNA will donate these items to the
Bartlett House. Thanks so much. Michelle L. Ryan is the SNA President, 2008-2009.SNA COLLECTING TOPS FROM MEDICATION VIALS FOR FUNDRAISER! If you are working in a clinical setting this summer, please collect the plastic tops off vials of medication. When you open a new vial of medication, save that round plastic top. You can save them until school starts OR you can drop them off in Academic Affairs (in front of Brandy's office). SNA is using these for a future fundraiser. Thanks for everyone's help and support. CHEROKEE INSPIRED COMFORT AWARD Nominations are being accepted for this award for "exceptional service, sacrifice and innovation" during 2007. Many possible awards are available. Please see Stuart Wells in 6415 for an application. Deadline for submission is May 31 NEED A BABYSITTER? Nursing Student Jessica Pforr will be staying in Morgantown throughout the summer. She can babysit on a regular basis or every now and then depending on individual needs. More than one child is not a problem (she comes from a big family). She typically charges $10 hr. but that is negotiable. Feel free to contact her anytime at 304-376-3542. EMPLOYMENT, SCHOLARSHIPS, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEER HOURS/OPPORTUNITIES! This section is not an endorsement by WVU or the School of Nursing for any of these opportunities or their sponsors/requestors. Students are advised to carefully explore any opportunity prior to engaging in any volunteer, community service, or employment activity. http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/son/academicPrograms/currentStudentInfo.htm or http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/son/opportunities/volunteer/volunteer_index.htm KEEP BRINGING YOUR USED PC CARTRIDGES TO HEALTH RESTORATION
There was a great article last week in USA Today praising the feral cat program, which we are currently supporting with the Humane Society. Feral cats are caught, spayed or neutered and then released. Additionally, funds are used for food and shelter for these animals who, through no fault of their own, find themselves living in colonies and not in loving homes. The spay/neuter program will eventually shrink the size of the colonies. There is a large feral cat colony behind Bob Evans and these used cartridges that you so generously donate are helping these cats with food and shelter and sterilization. SHARE YOUR NEWS WITH US: No news is too big or too small for the weekly message! Send your news to bjurick@hsc.wvu.edu.
