RUBY EMPLOYEE HEALTH LOOKING FOR NURSING STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
Students are needed to do a pre-pilot data collection for approx. one week, and then a post-pilot collection period 2 weeks later. Students would be roaming the 7 East Nursing Unit, observing types of patient lifts that are occurring by the nursing staff and keeping record similar to a tally sheet. We would also need commitment for weekend hours as well. This is a great opportunity for community service hours and to be involved in a research study. If you're interested and for more information, please contact Kathleen Hamperian RN,BSN,CCM, Employee Health Department hamperiank@wvuh.com or call 304-598-4000 ext. 73068.

EAT AT CHILI'S TUESDAY EVENING, MAY 12 AND SUPPORT ROSENBAUM FAMILY HOUSE
Chili's at the University Towne Center in Morgantown will host Rosenbaum Family House Night from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12.

For every customer who brings in a Rosenbaum Family House Night flyer, Chili's will donate 10 percent of those sales to the Family House at West Virginia University Hospitals. Flyers can be picked up at the Family House front desk or downloaded from http://health.wvu.edu/rosenbaum/events.aspx. Connected to Ruby Memorial Hospital, the Rosenbaum Family House is available to adult patients and their caregivers who live more than 50 miles from Morgantown. While here, each family is asked to pay $15 per night. It costs $40 per night per room to operate the Family House. Donations from guests and others make up the difference. For those who cannot afford $15 per night, payment arrangements can be made - no family is turned away for inability to pay. Guests are permitted to stay as long as their patient is undergoing treatment.

CELEBRATE WOMEN'S HEALTH MONTH WITH WALKS IN MAY
Celebrate Women's Health Month by joining in a series of walks that promise not only companionship but also a boost to your health. The National Center of Excellence in Women's Health at West Virginia University is sponsoring a series of walks in downtown Morgantown and at WVU Hospitals starting May 6. Two separate walks will take place at noon starting in two different locations:

o at the playground on the Hazel Ruby-McQuain Rail-Trail
o under the canopy at WVU Hospitals

Another walk will start at 5 p.m. on the Hazel Ruby-McQuain Rail-Trail only. The walks will be repeated every Wednesday in May. The walks are open to all age groups, and registration is free. Blood pressure checks will be available, and participants will also receive information and tools in a take-home bag to help keep track of fitness efforts.

THE MUSHROOM PROJECT NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Two of our nursing students, Bill Grieb and Macy Miller are involved with the MUSHROOM Project, a medical outreach for the homeless population of Morgantown. They have been collecting clothing for the homeless and want to get the SON involved. Collection boxes are located in Health Promotion and Restoration. The collection needs at this time are socks for men/women, boxers, women's underwear, hair conditioner and deodorant. Please contact Macy, mmille22@mix.wvu.edu for more details or to get involved. You can purchase 10 pair of socks at the local dollar stores for $5. These needs are so basic - can you help?

KEEP BRINGING YOUR USED PC CARTRIDGES TO HEALTH RESTORATION
We continue to raise funds for the Humane Society – The small pc cartridges we are donating are worth around $1 and the large cartridges bring in $4 each – This continues to be a worthwhile project, saving the animals and the landfill as well. The Humane Society truly appreciates your efforts! This is a year round project! Unfortunately, the need never goes away!
