CONGRATULATIONS :
To graduating Senior Mindy Ewing and husband Thomas on birth of son Seth Thomas April 30th. 7 lb 16 oz,19 1/2 in long Seth was so anxious to see his parents he started announcing his arrival during NCLEX review—nothing like the real thing to brush up on those OB nursing principles!
To Junior Kristin Williams and fiancé Nick Tennant who will be married May 17, 2003, at Chestnut Ridge Community Church.
To winners of the 2003 Marita G. Titler Conduct of Research Poster Award for the outstanding poster presented at the University of Iowa Health Care National Evidence-Based Practice Conference. The research, presented by Mary Fanning, was “Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Research Utilization Program to Change Practice” by Larrabee, J.H.; Fanning, M.; Ferretti, A; Sions, J.; and Withrow, M.L.
READ MIX THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER:
Check your MIX throughout the summer for information from the School of Nursing. Mix is accessible from any where in the world if you can get to the world wide web. Remember, it’s best to forward your other e-mail accounts (if you have AOL etc.) to MIX and not the other way around.
FALL SCHEDULE CHECKUP FOR UNDERGRADUATES:
All undergrads are asked to check their fall schedule of courses now. If you see any problems or have questions about your schedule, see Mrs. Lisa Vidovich in Student Services or contact her at 293-1384 or by e-mail lvidovich@hsc.wvu.edu. Problems with schedules can probably be fixed now but not after June 30.
Would four Junior students be willing to lend their Brunner and Suddarth Med-Surg text to students taking Nursing 332 this summer? Books will be returned to you at end of July. If you will lend, call Dr. Lynne Ostrow or Betty Jurick in Health Restoration at 293-2801.
STUDENT PICNIC 8/21/03:
Mark you calendars now for the Student Nurses Association sponsored picnic for all undergrad students—Thursday, August 21, at 4:00 pm at Krepps Park. Good eats, good fun for all, don’t miss it.
RECIPE FOR GREAT SUCCESS ON FINAL EXAMS:
Get eight hours sleep before the test, fortify yourself with some good eats that day, visualize yourself confidently answering questions correctly, and know faculty wish each of you well as you progress through finals week!
STUDENTS WITH CHILDREN:
Students who are also parents are encouraged to e-mail Child Development and Family Support Services at childcare@mail.wvu.edu so that they can be added to the listserv for program and service updates. Child care services for WVU students will be expanding as the result of the receipt of a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
PARKING PASSES FOR “THE PIT”:
Student Services has permits for Pit parking. Take the permit to University
Parking office in the Prete Building on University Ave. (across from the
Japanese restaurant) and pay $150.00 for a permit good for a year.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
American Cancer Society Relay For Life is June 20th-21st
at the WVU track. Anyone who would like to register to help should contact Gail
VanVoorhis at 293-0298. You can volunteer for the whole event or just a small
amount of time. There is a $10 registration fee; if you get it in by May 8th
you can be guaranteed the right size T-shirt! Help Gail register people, have
FUN enjoying the picnic food, in the tie-dye booth, walking in circles, and
participating with your friends.
March of Dimes still needs students to take blood pressures from 9:00-10:00 am at the Sunshade behind the swimming pool at Krepps Park on Saturday, May 17 before the start of the March of Dimes’ Walk America. Please call Jane Dombroski now at 1-800-644-3488.
