COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Volunteers are needed at Camp Nokoma (diabetes camp) July 11-17th in the Charleston area. This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours while gaining experience with diabetes, and having lots of fun with some cool kids. The camp is especially interested in male students because there is a large male camper population. For more information, contact Joanne Watson at Jewatson@hsc.wvu.edu, 293-1772.
Earn community service hours by donating blood at the Health Science Center, John Jones Conference Center, on Wednesday, May 19, from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Please call 598-4095 for an appointment.
Volunteers also needed for Special Olympics - Preparations are under way for the 2004 West Virginia Special Olympics Summer Games June 4-6 at WVU, and organizers are once again looking to the community for help in making sure success of the games continues. “We are now seeking about 1,500 volunteers from the local area to help run the Summer Games,” said Bobbie Bodkin, volunteer coordinator. To help, volunteers must complete an application form available at http://www.wvu.edu/specialolympics/ The volunteer forms are available in two formats: an online version or a PDF/downloadable version. Volunteers are encouraged to use the online version. For people without Internet access, application forms can be obtained by calling Bodkin at 293-5489 or the Special Olympics toll-free hotline at 1-888-988-2269. WVU employees who have already agreed to work during one of the ceremonies/events should make that clear in the comments section of the application. Deadline to complete the form is May 24.
