CONGRATULATIONS:

To Alvita Nathaniel who has successfully defended her doctoral dissertation:  “A Grounded Theory of Moral Reckoning for Nursing.”  Dr. Nathaniel is the very first graduate of the School of Nursing Doctor of Science in Nursing program.  Her research has received high praise from Dr. Barney G. Glaser, internationally recognized sociologist who has pioneered grounded theory methodology.

 

WVUH FREE NCLEX WORKSHOP 11/8/03:

SNA CAREER FAIR 12/1/03:

This year’s Student Nurses Association Sponsored Career Fair will be held on Monday, Dec. 1 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the John E. Jones Conference Rooms.  Representatives from various healthcare facilities from West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and other states will be providing information regarding nurse externships and employment opportunities.  This is a special event planned for all nursing students—don’t miss it!  Any questions?  Ask senior Brandi Goss or faculty member Joy Maramba.

 

SNA MEETING 11/17/03:

Meet with fellow students on Nov. 17 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in room 2118 HSC North (Path amp).

 

GIVE BLOOD AND SAVE A LIFE 11/19/03:

A blood drive will be held Nov. 19 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the John Jones Conference Center.  Call 598-4095 for an appointment.  Blood donations earn community service hours.

 

PALLIATIVE CARE NURSING ELECTIVE AVAILABLE SPRING SEMESTER:

Juniors and Seniors -- A two credit nursing elective, “Palliative Care Basics” will be taught Spring semester by faculty member Cindy Drenning on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:50 pm.  The course will provide basic information and discussion surrounding end-of-life care of the patient and family in a variety of settings.  Contact Ms. Drenning at cdrenning@hsc.wvu.edu if want more information.  When the CRN for the course is available, we will post it in the message so you can register yourself into the course.

WV JOB FAIR HSC JOHN JONES 11/21/03:

WVU Health Sciences Placement Services has scheduled a job fair from 10 am to 3 pm on Nov. 21 in John Jones conference center.  A list of exhibitors who will attend can be found at www.hsc.wvu.edu/placement

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

WVUH has nurse extern or surgical technician summer employment opportunities for BSN candidates with evidence of successful completion of Junior year.   $5000 scholarships will be awarded to 8 Externs or Surgical Technicians for a 1-year employment commitment to WVUH.  There is opportunity to continue employment through graduation (12 hours per week or a minimum of 16 hours per month.)  Forward resume, WVUH application, and two letters of recommendation by FAX: 304-598-4264 or MAIL: WVU Hospitals, Human Resources, Dept. 8121, Morgantown, WV 26506.  For info call 598—4075.  Application deadline:  Feb. 13, 2004

 

ALUMNI NEWS:

Congratulations to Elizabeth A. Hupp, BSN 1981, MA in Education 1984, who was named the 2003 WVU School of Nursing Alumni Association Alumna of the Year.

And

Congratulations to Dr. Mary Jane Smith, Professor of Nursing, who was selected as the 2003 Honorary Alumna to the WVU School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Ms. Hupp and Dr. Smith were honored at the Alumni banquet held at The Pines Country Club on Friday, October 31, 2003.
