DECEMBER GRADUATES:
Please stop by the Office of Student Services and pick up your packet of information on December graduation.  There will be a School of Nursing ceremony honoring December graduates on Sunday, December 12, at 10 am, followed by a brunch for graduates, family, and friends.  The University graduation ceremony will take place at 1:30 pm on December 12 in the Coliseum.

WVU FORGIVING PARKING TICKETS FOR FOOD DONATIONS:
WVU parking officials are offering students a chance to tear up a ticket Nov. 8-12.  The parking office will forgive one $10 ticket or two $5 citations in exchange for donations to its food drive.  Donations will be received at the Prette Building.  They should include three canned food items 10 ounces or more or dried goods such as rice or pasta.  All food must have valid expiration dates.  No tickets for unlawfully parking in handicapped spaces will be excused.  All food collected will go to food pantries in Monongalia County. Last year, the parking office collected nearly 5,000 canned goods.

NEW PHOTOS REQUIRED FOR MOUNTAINEER ID CARDS:   
All students who have not had a photo taken since May 2003, are required to have a new phota taken at Mountaineer Card Services in the Mountainlair.  The “Smile on 3” project is part of the changeover from Social Security numbers to the new WVUID.  The project kicks off Monday, Nov. 15, and continues through Saturday, Nov. 20. Extended hours next week include: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.  Valid IDs are required for access to Student Health, Library checkout, PRT, and sporting events.  New cards will be produced and distributed in the Spring. PDA USERS GROUP:
The next PDA Users Group will meet on Thursday November 18th from 12 noon -12:50 PM in room 2116  in the Health Sciences Center.  Topic will be "Selecting software for the PDA".  All students, staff, and faculty interested in PDAs are encouraged to attend.  For further information contact Jean Siebert 293-1920 or

HSC JOB FAIR:
A job fair will be held for all HSC students on November 19 from 10 AM to 3 PM in the John Jones Conference Center Meeting Rooms.  For more information, go to
www.hsc.wvu.edu/placement and click on "2004 Job Fair".   There will be at least 19 institutions that want to hire nursing students, and at least 9 that are interested in NP students.

GLOBAL HEALTH DAY:
November 29, 2004 12-2:30 PM in John Jones Rooms 1, 2, and 3.  Keynote Speaker is Dr. Katalin Roth, JD, MD, from George Washington University Medical Center, who will be speaking on “The Medical Evaluation of Torture Victims” at noon.  Afterward Dr. David Fogarty, MD, DDS will be speaking on his surgical experiences in developing countries.  All are welcome; lunch will be provided for all who RSVP to

BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT NURSING

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
The next WV Family Grief center dinner is Nov. 15th at 4:30 at the Suncrest Methodist Church/Trinity Campus.   We are also looking for volunteers for the 20th of December.  Since this is a holiday for students we are offering double community service hours.  Faculty are welcome to help.  Contact Gail VanVoorhis at gvanvoorhis@hsc.wvu.edu

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh has full-time paid nurse externship opportunities for Sophomore and Junior nursing students from May through July 2005.  Must be able to work weekends and shift rotations.  You will have an RN preceptor for the entire Externship.  For more information and to schedule an interview, call 412-359-8098, or email GCZECH@wpahs.org.

UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) is looking for junior nursing students for their summer internship program.  This is an opportunity to earn money and participate in a valuable internship experience.  To be eligible, you must complete your junior year by Spring 2005, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, provide an official transcript and one letter of recommendation, and submit an application by January 31, 2005.  Information is available on the Student Services bulletin board and in the Office of Student Services.
