HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

CONGRATULATIONS:
To Forrest Moodispaw, Junior nursing student, who was awarded the Aerial Achievement Medal by the United States Air Force for sustained meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in Iraq.  His outstanding skills and courage ensured the delivery of medical care during combat operations.

To Ashley Weimer, who has advanced to the next level in the Rhodes Scholarship competition.  Ashley was also named to the all-Big East second team in women’s soccer.

NEW PHOTOS REQUIRED FOR MOUNTAINEER ID CARDS:
All students who have not had a photo taken since May 2003, are required to have a new photo taken at Mountaineer Card Services in the Mountainlair.  The “Smile on 3” project is part of the changeover from Social Security numbers to the new WVUID.  The project kicks off Monday, Nov. 15, and continues through Saturday, Nov. 20. Extended hours next week include: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.  Valid IDs are required for access to Student Health, Library checkout, PRT, and sporting events.  New cards will be produced and distributed in the Spring. HSC JOB FAIR:
A job fair will be held for all HSC students on November 19 from 10 AM to 3 PM in the John Jones Conference Center Meeting Rooms.  For more information, go to www.hsc.wvu.edu/placement and click on "2004 Job Fair".   There will be at least 19 institutions that want to hire nursing students, and at least 9 that are interested in NP students.

GLOBAL HEALTH DAY:
November 29, 2004 12-2:30 PM in John Jones Rooms 1, 2, and 3.  Keynote Speaker is Dr. Katalin Roth, JD, MD, from George Washington University Medical Center, who will be speaking on “The Medical Evaluation of Torture Victims” at noon.  Afterward Dr. David Fogarty, MD, DDS will be speaking on his surgical experiences in developing countries.  All are welcome; lunch will be provided for all who RSVP to nsanders@hsc.wvu.edu by 11/22.

WOMEN’S HEALTH POLICY CONFERENCE:
The State Women's Health Policy Conference will be held at the Radisson in Morgantown December 7-8, with an opening reception on the evening of the 6th.  The Center for Women's Studies is one of the sponsors for this event.  The conference is free for students, $100 for others without meals, or $140 with meals.  Topics include critical care issues facing women, management and treatment strategies challenging women’s health care, social and cultural issues threatening health care of women, access issues related to women’s health care, and women’s health policy initiatives.  For more information and registration, contact www.chandcompany.com, brandy@chandwompany.com, (304) 346-0300.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF PITTSBURGH OPEN HOUSE:
Senior nursing students and nursing alumni are invited to an Open House at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 8, 2005, from 11 am to 3 pm.  Information on nursing opportunities at the hospital will be presented and tours will be available.  The event will be held at the Oakland campus, 3705 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.  For more information, contact Susan Meneely at (412) 653-6059, meneely1@verizon.net.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh has full-time paid nurse externship opportunities for Sophomore and Junior nursing students from May through July 2005.  Must be able to work weekends and shift rotations.  You will have an RN preceptor for the entire Externship.  For more information and to schedule an interview, call 412-359-8098, or email GCZECH@wpahs.org.

UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) is looking for junior nursing students for their summer internship program.  This is an opportunity to earn money and participate in a valuable internship experience.  To be eligible, you must complete your junior year by Spring 2005, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, provide an official transcript and one letter of recommendation, and submit an application by January 31, 2005.  Information is available on the Student Services bulletin board and in the Office of Student Services.
