CONGRATULATIONS:
To Associate Professor Dr. Imogene Foster whose entry in the 36th All Member Show of the Morgantown Art Association has received the Award for Best West Virginia Art.  Her photograph, “Nature’s Palette,” was taken at Tygart Valley.  Dr. Foster’s entry is on display at the Benedum Gallery, 107 High Street, until October 25th.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT GAME DAY 10/22/03:
The HSC will not close early.  Normal operating hours will be observed including Student Health Services.  The HSC library will maintain evening hours.  Faculty are responsible for managing their individual classes.  The Cancer Center clinic and Family Medicine clinic will close early.  Parking lots 80, 81, and 84 will remain open until 5:00 pm.

SECOND NOTICE - UNDERGRADUATE SPRING REGISTRATION:
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior nursing class sections are posted on the Student Services bulletin board.  See your academic advisor for pin number and assistance in registration planning for non-nursing courses.  Contact Mrs. Lisa Vidovich at 293-1384 or lvidovich@hsc.wvu.edu if you have questions.

Freshmen - your schedules have been submitted to Admission and Records for registration.  Contact Mrs. Lisa Vidovich if you have questions.

REMINDER - DECEMBER GRADUATES AND GRADUATION CONVOCATION 12/7/03:
Plans are being finalized for the School of Nursing convocation the morning of Sunday, Dec. 7.  You will soon receive information and invitations you can use to invite family and friends to the event.  You will need to wear academic gowns for this so order them from the bookstore now.  At the University convocation that same day in the afternoon, you will each be called to the stage by name and probably have your picture taken with President Hardesty.  Both of these events are important and proud moments for your family and we urge you to attend both of them.

FREE NORTON ANTIVIRUS INSTALLED FOR STUDENTS:
You can have Norton Antivirus installed on your computer for free this year.  Take your machine to the Service Center in Brooke Tower or in the Mountainlaire.  Service Center hours are 8:15 am to 4:45 pm.

WV JOB FAIR HSC JOHN JONES 11/21/03:
WVU Health Sciences Placement Services has scheduled a job fair from 10 am to 3 pm on Nov. 21 in John Jones conference center.  A list of exhibitors who will attend can be found at www.hsc.wvu.edu/placement

SCHOLARSHIPS:
McNair Scholars program recruiting.  WVU is accepting applications for the McNair Scholars Program which provides hope and opportunity for promising undergraduates who seek to pursue advanced graduate degrees.  Applicants must be first-generation and low-income student or a member of an underrepresented group:  African American, Hispanic American, or Native American.  Find out more about the program and other requirements and download an application at http://www.wvu.edu/~mcnair or contact program director anita.mayer@mail.wvu.edu or call 293-4316.  Application deadline is Jan. 31, 2004.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
The Pittsburgh Mercy Health System offers a free Kaplan NCLEX Review Course to all GNs who accept employment with the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System:  Mercy  Hospital (Pittsburgh); Mercy Providence Hospital (Pittsburgh North Side); Mercy Jeannette Hospital (Jeannette, PA).  They also advertise a “generous sign on bonus” or loan forgiveness for Senior nursing students.  For more information contact Freda Dempster, 412-232-5511, fdempster@mercy.pmhs.org .
