Noon-3. If you can’t make those times, your shirt will be available for you at the Mall. We’re going to have a great day!

Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha Rho Chapter Open House
The Alpha Rho Chapter will hold an open house program on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4-6pm in the John Jones Center, Conference Room B. A brief presentation will be given providing information about the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and WVU School of Nursing’s Alpha Rho Chapter. Membership eligibility criteria will also be discussed. In addition, a presentation will be given regarding professional interviewing and dressing. Light refreshments will be served. All interested nursing students, both undergraduate and graduate, are invited to attend. Please notify Cindy Dalton at cdalton@ hsc.wvu.edu regarding your intention to attend the program by Friday, Oct. 27.

ESSAY CONTEST
The New York Academy of Medicine invites entries for the third annual New York Academy of Medicine Student Essay Prize, awarded to the best unpublished essay by a graduate student in a medical, nursing, pharmacy, or public health program in the United States. Essays should address topics in the history of public health or medicine as they relate to urban health issues; they may consider social or environmental factors in the health of urban populations, institutional histories, or specific diseases. The winner will receive $500, and the winning essay will receive expedited review for possible publication in the Journal of Urban Health. Essays must be written entirely by one person, who must have been a student at the time the essay was written. Essays must be received by Friday, March 30, 2007. FLU VACCINES WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE HSC ABSOLUTELY FREE TO HSC STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF!
The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center will be providing Influenza vaccine this fall to be given free of charge to all HSC students, staff and faculty. The vaccine will be administered through the University’s Student Health Service. This program is an effort to keep health sciences students, staff and faculty healthier and more productive, and decrease possible spread of influenza among this group and the patients they care for or may be exposed to. Vaccinations will be offered while supplies last, and are recommended for all, in the

Those who wish to receive the vaccination are required to bring a valid HSC employee or student identification badge and are encouraged to wear clothing that makes upper arm exposure easy. Flu vaccine will also be available to employees of WVU Hospitals and University Health Associates through the hospital's Employee Health department at a date to be determined by vaccine availability. An announcement will be made when the vaccine becomes available. The Student Health Service will also be offering flu shots to the general student population at the Student Recreation Center (for $15 each) on Oct. 18th and 26th from 3-8 p.m.
RAISING FUNDS FOR AMERICAN DIABETIC ASSOCIATION
For her capstone, Molly Raudenbush is helping with the Cheat Lake Elementary and Middle School Walk for Diabetes. The event raises money for the American Diabetic Association and will take place on Wednesday October 25 from 2:30-4:00. Faculty and students are invited to participate and make donations to the American Diabetes Association. If anyone is interested in making a donation or volunteering please call 304-322-6079 or email mraudenb@mix.wvu.edu.
NURSING STUDENT SELECTED AS FINALIST!
We have just learned that Christal Kirk, August 2005 BSN graduate and current MSN student has been selected as one of the five finalists for Ms. Mountaineer. Ms. Mountaineer will be announced at half-time during the November 11, Cincinnati vs WVU football game. The WVU School of Nursing Alumni Association is Christal's sponsor. SNA STATE CONVENTION
Will be Friday, October 20, at the John XXIII Pastoral Center in Charleston. There will be some very exciting presentations and several scholarships will be awarded, including 1- $1,000 tuition and 2- $300 book scholarships. VOTE COACH ROD FOR PRESIDENT? – EVEN BETTER - FOR COACH OF THE YEAR!!
Mountaineer fans will have a chance to vote WVU Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez “Coach of the Year” as part of a special promotion sponsored by Liberty Mutual, an affinity partner of the WVU Alumni Association. The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year will be awarded to the football coach who most embodies the characteristics of responsibility and integrity on and off the field. Alumni, fans, and friends can visit http://alumni.wvu..edu and click on the “Vote Coach Rod” icon on the left side of the site. Initial voting will continue through Nov. 5. On Nov. 6, the 20 coaches with the most votes will be selected as semifinalists and voting will continue only for those coaches. The winner will be announced Dec. 16 on ABC.

STATISTICS COURSE
Junior students who want to take STAT 211 online in the Spring semester should notify Terry Shaeiwitz, Academic Advisor in Student Services, as soon as possible. This section of STAT 211 is specifically for health professions majors. The erurse section will not appear on the Spring schedule until November 2006, and there will be a limited number of spaces available.
