SNA MEETING SCHEDULE:
The Student Nurses Association meetings will be held on Sept. 22, Oct 27, and Nov. 17 from 4:00-5:00 pm in room 2118 (Path Amp) Health Sciences Center North.

Help SNA sell these items and buy some for your gift giving. Must order before October 1. Order forms available from SNA workspace in Health Restoration; see secretary Betty Jurick if you have questions.
JOIN SNA NOW:
It’s not too late to join WVUSNA. Local dues are $10.00. Membership forms are available from Student Services, faculty Gail VanVoorhis in the Skills lab, or in SNA workspace in Health Restoration. Submit cash or check made payable to WVUSNA with membership form to Brandy in Student Services. Applications for national membership are available from Student Services or you can join online at www.nsna.org and click on member services. Dues of $32 (new member) or $42 (renewal) or $74 for two years cover both national and state membership. Attendance at the national convention requires national membership. Eligibility for some WVNA scholarship funds requires state/national membership.
ALPINE LAKE PROPERTY NEAR GOLF COURSE MIGHT BE YOURS:
Seniors Michelle Byerley and Jill Looney have raffle tickets, $10.00 each, the prize is land at Alpine Lake. The raffle proceeds will be used to build a ramp for disabled children at East Preston Elementary School. Place your ticket order with Jill at jlooney1@mix.wvu.edu
NO SMOKING:
Students, employees, and visitors to the Health Sciences Center are reminded that all indoor areas-and all outdoor areas close to buildings-are non-smoking areas. This includes the outside tables and benches near the HSC Cafeteria, Student Lounge, and the Pylons entrance. Exceptions to the no smoking areas are the designated smokers’ shelters near the HSC and Ruby, and areas more than 25 feet away from any exterior wall or door.
DOWNTOWN LIBRARY OFFERS PAPER CLINIC FOR RESEARCH-WRITING COURSES:
Throughout the semester the library is holding clinics Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in study room 1028 on the main floor of the downtown campus library. Students can attend on a drop-in basis. Help is given to: 1. choose a focused research topic that fulfills the scope of the assignment; 2. formulate a research strategy, focusing on the selection, use, and evaluation of appropriate research materials and resources; 3. organize gathered information into a structured research paper; 4. document and cite sources properly.
GET TUTORING HELP FOR CHEM 110, CHEM111, OR CHEM 115:
Free tutoring is offered at the Chemistry Learning Center in Clark Hall, rooms 317 and 320, from 7:00 pm to 10 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (except, probably, on Oct. 22, the night of the VA Tech football game). Do not wait until you are too far behind to catch up, get help now.
WVU HOSPITALS HOSTS TAILGATE FOR SENIOR NURSING STUDENTS 9/13/03:
Free tickets to the WVU vs. Cincinnati game will be provided for students and a guest. See notice on Student Services bulletin board and contact Annette Belcher 598-4075 for tickets.
SOPHOMORE INDUCTION 10/10/03:
Save the date of Friday, October 10 at 7:00 pm for the Sophomore Induction ceremony to be held in the Health Sciences Auditorium. Details later.
ALUMNI WEEKEND 10/31-11/1/03:
Alumni weekend registration brochures are being placed in faculty mailboxes. Please put Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 on your calendar and plan to be with alumni on those dates.
SNA CAREER FAIR 12/1/03:
Health care facilities from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and more will be offering information about externships and RN positions at the career fair Monday, December 1st from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the John Jones Conference Center. DECEMBER GRADUATION CONVOCATION 12/7/03:
A convocation ceremony will be held in the HSC cafeteria for all nursing December grads. The University graduation ceremony will follow our event. Details later.
UNITY DAY 2/5/04:
Unity Day for nursing with state legislators at the WV state capitol will be Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. Watch the message for details on bus transportation organized for interested students and faculty.
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS:
Hour requirements for BSN, RN to BSN, and BS/BA to BSN students can be found at www.hsc.wvu.edu/son in the Undergraduate Handbook in BSN section, page 59.
Hour requirements for MSN students can be found at www.hsc.wvu.edu/son in the Graduate Handbook in MSN section, page 29.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES-JUNIORS, SENIORS, GRADUATE:
Volunteers are needed to assist with bereavement phone calls to families of patients who were seen by palliative care service and died while an inpatient at WVU Hospitals. Brief training is provided. Each phone contact requires brief documentation in a log format. Long distance calls are reimbursed. Average number of calls per month are 8-10 with average length of call being 20 minutes. If interested contact Linda McMillan in the Center for Health Ethics and Law at 293-7618.

Johanna Rogers Moreland, BSN 1997, and husband Travis have announced the birth of Matthew Ryan, born 8/9/03. Matthew weighed 6 lbs 13 ozs and was 20 inches long.
Joe Shuttleworth, BSN 1982, and wife Kellee have announced the birth of Matthew Steven, born 8/19/03. Nine pound 3 oz, 22 inches long Matthew has a brother, Jacob, who is two years old.
