Travel for Research Development Guidelines

Policy:

Research development funds may be used to support faculty who participate in a workshop or conference designed to help them move their program of research to the next level.

Funds are available as follows:

  • Starter funds, not to exceed $200, are available on a one-time basis per faculty member actively engaged in research.
  • Proposal development funds, not to exceed $500, are available for participation in a workshop when the faculty member agrees to submit an application for external funding within 6 months of attending the workshop.  This funding may be repeated for faculty who demonstrated successful funding or publication from previous support.
  • Federal grant application development funds, not to exceed $1,000, are available for participation in a workshop when a faculty has received previous external funding and is preparing a grant application to submit to a federal agency.

Funds may be applied to registration fees or travel.


Procedure:
1.

The Funds to Travel for Research Development Request Form is to be submitted to the investigator's Department Chair with the Absence Approval Form.

Click the appropriate form below:

The Department Chair will then forward the travel form to the Associate Dean for Research.

2. Following approval from the Associate Dean for Research, the request will be forwarded to the Dean for approval.
3. Within three days of returning from travel, the investigator is responsible for processing all expense records through the investigator's department secretary using the award number.
