BIOSKETCH I grew up in Bluffton, a small town in Northwest Ohio, in the middle of many cows and cornfields. Following my graduation from Bluffton High School, I pursued a degree in pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon the conclusion of my six years of schooling and completion of my Pharm.D. degree, I moved to Greenville, NC to complete my PGY-1 residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. While I enjoyed my time in North Carolina, the opportunity to move closer to family and to once again experience all four seasons drove me to West Virginia. This goal was accomplished as I accepted my current position as Clinical Assistant Professor at West Virginia University and Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. I married my beautiful better half, Carrie, in July of 2005 and we welcomed our son Caleb James into family on April 15th, 2008. As a family, we are looking forward to our time in Huntington and with West Virginia University as we’ll strive to make a positive impact on the community as well as the future of pharmacy practice through direct interactions with pharmacy students on rotations and in the classroom.
EDUCATION Pharm.D., University of Pittsburgh, 2007 TEACHING INTERESTS AND COURSE TAUGHT Due to my current lack of experience as a professor, my teaching interests are still being formed and reformed on a daily basis. While I have an overarching interest in teaching the intricacies of Internal Medicine, there is not one specific area of the discipline that I would consider a definitive interest. I have always appreciated the broad base of knowledge that is required to be successful in Internal Medicine and this is guiding how I will approach determining my teaching interests. I look forward to teaching through actions in the upcoming year and enjoy having students on clinical rotations alongside me. Future Courses: PHAR 715, Pathophysiology & Therapeutics I (Fall 2008) PRACTICE INTERESTS My practice interests are focused mostly in the area of Internal Medicine where I have an interest in diabetes and heart failure care as well as studying healthcare in underserved populations, specifically South Africa. My current practice site is Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV where I am the Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacist responsible for rounding with the Internal Medicine physicians and residents. Additionally, I will be practicing with students from West Virginia University during their clinical rotations and hoping to further their knowledge and expertise in the areas covered in Internal Medicine.
