Designing Materials for Product Success

The chemistry and materials community today knows enough about stucture-property relationships that the days of 'discovered' materials is well behind us. Many modern researchers are capable of designing functionality into materials such that they perform in the desired manner.  How do we know what that desired manner is and how do we know what materials to make? An additional set of skills related to market and customer understanding needs to be added to guide the design and development of new materials. A brief outline of the paradigm will be discussed in this talk.
