WV Women in Pharmacy (P-1,2,3,4): A reminder that all pharmacy students are to attend the WV Women in Pharmacy program that will be held this Friday, Nov. 10, 11AM-12:30 PM in the Health Sciences Center Auditorium. Approximately one dozen distinguished alumni from the school or practitioners in WV will be honored at the event. Each honoree will give a brief presentation about her most outstanding accomplishment. Honorees represent a wide range of pharmacy practice. NIDA Preventing Rx Drug Abuse (P-1,2,3,4): NIDA has developed a Community Drug Alert Bulletin that addresses the latest scientific research on the non-medical use of prescription drugs of abuse and addiction. The bulletin summarizes the emerging problem in our country and the disturbing trend of non-medical use of prescription drugs. It is geared for parents, teachers, counselors, school nurses and health professionals who are associated with those at risk of prescription drug abuse for non-medical purposes. NIDA has also produced the "Research Report Series on Prescription Drugs Abuse and Addiction" and a companion laminated "Commonly Abused Drugs" chart. The laminated reference card provides information about most major drugs of abuse, their commercial street names, their short-and long-term effects, their modes of administration, and their Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substances schedules. The research report describes the consequences of prescription drug abuse and reviews recent research in this area. Please visit http://www.drugabuse.gov or call (800) 729-6686 to order these FREE publications and resources. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance. To order bulk publications, please e-mail me and I will be glad to take care of your order. Lastly, NIDA would appreciate you sharing this announcement with your colleagues and members affiliated with your organization via your listserv, e-newsletter, or Web site. LKS Trip to NYC (P-1,2,3,4): Lambda Kappa Sigma is hosting a bus trip to NEW YORK CITY. The bus will leave the HSC parking lot (Lot 81) on Friday, November 17th at 10:00 pm and will drop us off in New York City early Saturday morning. You will have the entire day to explore or shop on your own. The bus will then pick us back up and leave from NY at 11:00 pm on that same Saturday. We should return in Morgantown on Sunday, November 19th around 8 or 9:00 am. The cost of this trip is $65. This is a great opportunity to see famous Broadway plays, explore unique NY sites like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, and to do some great bargain shopping on Canal Street. There are only a few seats left. So, tickets will be on a first come first serve basis. You must pay the $65 at this time to reserve your seat. Checks can be made out to LKS. Please email me if you are interested. This trip is open to anyone. If you have any questions, please email Ashley Reed at areed@sole.wvu.edu. Pharmacy jackets (P-1,2,3,4): There are still a few extra School of Pharmacy jackets available for $50. Please contact Amanda Preston (apreston@sole.wvu.edu) for more information. |
