Much Joy to Report (P-1,2,3,4):
Congratulations to P-3 Suzanne Snapp on the birth of her baby on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Mother and child are doing well.

Congratulations to P-4's Megan Duffin and Brad Phillips who became engaged (to each other) over the Thanksgiving break. Brad popped the question in the middle of Times Square in NYC on Sunday, Nov. 19. A June 2007 wedding is being planned.

P-1 Girls Continue Winning Ways (P-1,2,3,4): The P-1 entry (Champ Pharm RX) in the Rec Center girls tournament has won its first two games and plays in the championship game on Sunday (time TBA).

Parking Ticket Forgiveness (P-1,2,3,4): The WVU Parking Office is once again having a food drive Dec. 4-8 to help the community. Bring in 3 or more canned or non-perishable food items to the Parking Office at the Prete Building and have one $10 citation or two $5 citations excused. Only one $10 citation or two $5 citations will be excused per license plate number. Food will not be accepted if the expiration date has expired. Office hours are from 7:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Spring Invoices (P-1,2,3,4): The University will begin posting invoices for Spring Semester 2007 Tuition and Fees the first week in December. Check your course registration, financial aid status and mailing address via your MIX account. Students with holds on their academic records will not show registration for any SOP classes.

New SOP Elective Course (P-2,3): PHAR 781: Drug Metabolism, 3 cr. hrs.

The Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences is offering a graduate course in Drug Metabolism in the Spring 2007. This course is also available as an elective for 2nd and 3rd year Pharm.D. students. The Drug Metabolism course is taught every other year, and was first offered in Spring 2001.

Description:
The objective of the course is to present a comprehensive view of the field of drug metabolism, with an emphasis on chemistry and enzymology of drug biotransformation pathways. The topics covered include the chemistry of phase I and II reactions, stereochemistry of drug metabolism, enzyme catalysis, inhibition and inactivation, structure and mechanism of drug metabolizing enzymes (cytochromes P450, FMOs, conjugating enzymes, etc.), as well as current techniques in drug metabolism studies and in vitro-in vivo predictions. The course is taught as a lecture/discussion, with required student presentations on a topic in drug metabolism. The CRN for this course is 15756.

CVS Career Resources Room (P-1,2,3,4): A reminder that the CVS Career Resources Room has been moved to room 8504 and 8506 in the Mylan Center. The computers and NAPLEX reference materials have already been moved; the career resources pamphlets, CD's, etc. will been moved shortly.

2006-07 ASHP Student Leadership Award (P-1,2,3,4): The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' (ASHP) Pharmacy Student Forum and the ASHP Research and Education Foundation are pleased to announce the availability of applications for the 2006-2007 ASHP
Student Leadership Award Program! Please inform your students about this opportunity to be recognized for their interest in health-system pharmacy practice and demonstrated leadership ability.
The ASHP Student Leadership Award Program consists of 12 awards annually (nationwide), awarded to four student members in each professional year of pharmacy school, beginning with the second professional year. The award consists of a plaque, an ASHP drug information reference library (valued at over $900), and a $2,500 cash award provided by the ASHP
Research and Education Foundation's Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund.
The selection process is competitive and interested students should apply by January 31, 2007. Award winners will be notified by March 15, 2007.

NIDA Summer Internship Opportunities (P-1,2,3): The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering summer research training opportunities at their facility in Baltimore, MD. AstraZeneca Industry Summer Internships (P-2,3): AstraZeneca is offering several twelve-week industry internships for the summer of 2007, focusing on an area of interest to the student. AMCP/FMCP Allergan,Inc. Specialized Summer Internship Program in Health Outcomes (P-1,2,3,): Two pharmacy students will have the opportunity to spend 10 weeks (between May and August) at Allergan,Inc. in Irvine, CA, learning about health outcomes and pharmacoeconomics, managed care systems and professional association management.
