1st place: Amber Morris and Lisa Glance

2nd place: Ben Lopez and Joey Nash

3rd place: Diana Betkijian and Ashley Reed

We wish Amber and Lisa the best of luck as they represent us at the national competition in Las Vegas.

LKS Speaker (P-1,2,3,4): November 8 @ noon in the Main Auditorium: LKS is sponsoring Dr. Roxann Powers from the Physicians Office Center to come and speak on skin care. Refreshments will be provided.

ASP Operation Diabetes "low sugar bake sale" (P-1,2,3,4): ASP's Operation Diabetes is having a "low sugar bake sale" on Nov. 5-7 in the big cafeteria across from the John Jones Conference rooms. Proceeds will help purchase exercise equipment and other supplies for rural diabetes centers throughout the state.

Women in Science elective (P-1,2,3): WMST 250, CRN 16085 GEC: 6 and 7 Meeting Time: 1700-1950 (5-7:50) W 119 Armstrong Hall downtown campus. This course will explore the relationship between gender and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). We will take an historical approach, focusing on the following areas: 1) women’s participation in
STEM; and 2) factors that have excluded women, and other under represented groups, from STEM careers. We will consider how a lack of women in STEM affects the progress of research. In addition, we will study how these historical trends affect the representation of both female and male scientists and science in popular culture (e.g. nature documentaries, short stories, novels, TV shows, and really bad, ‘mad science’ movies). After completing this course, YOU will:
● Develop an awareness of women’s experiences with science, including both personal and social dimensions, and use this knowledge to explain the origins and persistence of current issues facing women in science, with a focus on the US.
● Analyze how gender affects the representation of science and/or scientists in popular culture and connect this analysis to the public’s understanding of science.

Community Service Opportunity (P-1,2,3,4): From P-3 Stephanie Stalnaker- Operation Christmas Child (something like our Angel Tree kids), is a shoe box full of gifts. One takes a regular size shoe box, wrap the lid and box separately, so it can be opened easy, but wrapping is not required. You pick if you want to do a boy or a girl, ages 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14, and you fill the box fill gifts. You add $7 to the box to cover shipping and project costs and the boxes are sent to third world countries to help give kids a gift for Christmas that they may not otherwise get. Let me know by eagling me if you want to do it, I'll get you the paperwork, and you can give me the box when you are done so I can get it to the church hat will be mailing it out. The collection week is Nov. 12-19. Let me know if you would like to participate. Stephanie Stalnaker
