MOW 2007-08
Correction- last week's MOW noted the winners of the patient counseling competition- it was actually the Clinical Skills Competition- congratulations, again, to the team of Glance & Morris. Society News (P-1,2,3,4): Congratulations to P-4 Jennifer Rogers recently became engaged to Ryan Shenk, a WVU 2005 graduate in Geography Information Systems. A June 2008 wedding is anticipated. RDVC Food & Supplies Drive (P-1,2,3,4): Kappa Psi is sponsoring a Thanksgiving food/needs drive for the Morgantown Rape & Domestic Violence Center. We will be setup during lunch in front of the HSC Bookstore on the following dates: Thursday & Friday November 8 & 9, Monday & Tuesday November 12 & 13, and then Thursday November 15. LKS SOP Clothing Sale (P-1,2,3,4): LKS is offering Pharmacy sweat pants and a fleece zip up jacket to the School of Pharmacy. The sweat pants are navy blue with “PHARMACY” down the pant leg in gold lettering. They do not have the elastic at the bottom of the pant but they are not flare leg either. The sweat pants are $30. The fleece full zip is navy blue with the same embroidered emblem as the pharmacy jackets that were sold at the beginning of the year. The jackets are $50. Both items are in unisex sizes and are running a little big. I have attached pictures of the items(photo 1 and photo 2)(and and will be coming around to the classrooms with samples. Geriatrics & Gerontology (P-2,3): Dr. Elliott will be offering this 2 credit hour elective again this spring open to P2's and P3's. The course will cover a variety of topics related to pharmacists and geriatric care. The content of the course will be defined during the first class. Classes will meet once weekly either in a room in the HSC or via Live Classroom distance learning technology. Please contact Dr. Elliott if you are interested in learning more about this course. Blood Drive (P-1,2,3,4): There will be a Blood Drive on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the John Jones Conference Center. Free Flu Shots (P-1,2,3,4): Students may get their influenza vaccination on November 7th, 7 AM - 3 PM or November 15th, 1 PM -7 PM in the John Jones Conference Center. AFPE Scholarships (P-1,2,3,4): The American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) is accepting applications for the following scholarships and fellowships for the 2008-2009 academic year. Program descriptions, application forms, and instructions are available for viewing, printing, and/or downloading at www.afpenet.org. Click the Call for Applications button and then click the box to the left of each specific award. Also see attached for a listing of the scholarships. Scholarship Opportunity (P-3,4): If you are from Cambria, Somerset, or Bedford counties in PA, the local pharmacy association there has established a scholarship.
