Society News ( P-1,2,3,4):   Congratulations to : P-4 Brian Schellhaus, who was married on July 4, 2009 to Audrey Chase, a 2nd year medical student at WVU. Both are from Morgantown. 

P-4 Hannah Chambers, who got engaged this summer while hiking in Cooper's Rock.  Her fiance is Randall Trickett, a commercial lender at Centra Bank in Morgantown.  A Summer 2010 wedding is being planned!! 

P-3 Jennifer Decker who became engaged to Scott Seago, a graduate of the WVU School of Dentistry in 2007. A May 1020 wedding is being planned.

American College of Legal Medicine Hirsch Award (P-1,2,3,4): This $1,000 award is open to students from a wide variety of health sciences majors. Details available from the office of Student Services.

Community Service Opportunity ( P-1,2,3,4): From Dr. Ruth Kershner-  Hello to all: I have 2 opportunities for volunteers for alcohol education service-learning. On September 17 I will have a DUI simulator in front of the Lair from 9:30-3ish. I need some volunteers to help with this. An hour or 2 is fine with me. Also on the evening of the 17 th I will have a table on High Street from 10pm-12am to distribute blood alcohol strips, date rape drug coasters and condoms. I need some folks to help with this and help to instruct passers-by how to use the strips/coasters. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering. I would greatly appreciate it. Volunteers needed to help with HSC flu shots (P-1,2,3,4): The date for the HSC Flu Clinic at the John Jones Conf center will be Sept. 22, 2009 from 7am till 6pm ( possibly later if there are still interested people and vaccine).

Volunteers are needed for 2 hour blocks for both the sign in table and injection tables. As in years before, students giving flu vaccine injections must have some prior experience; no experience needed for the sign-in table.

Those interested in volunteering may call Well WVU Student Health at 293-2311 and ask to speak to a nurse.

SSHP (P-1,2,3,4): Welcome and Welcome back!!! For those who missed the first general meeting for SSHP (Student Society of Health- System Pharmacists) it is not too late to consider joining. This year we have various activities planned including health screenings, brown bag day, and speakers to discuss residencies. SSHP is a great way to get hands on experience and community service. If you are interested in joining please see the 2 attached membership forms (ASHP Membership Application and SSHP-ASHP Membership Form). For any questions please contact Bettina Mason at bmason@sole.wvu.edu. I hope to see you all at our next general meeting!!!

Friday = Blue & Gold Day (P-1,2,3,4): In keeping with the national College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promote the traditions and spirit that make the college experience memorable, students, staff and faculty are encouraged to don their best blue & gold apparel.

Verification of Enrollment (P-1,2,3,4): Need proof of enrollment for your car insurance, to continue on your parent or spouse health insurance policy, to get a reduced rate on certain loans, etc.? You can now access that information on line and print out the needed documentation by accessing the National Clearinghouse Site thru MIX.   Go to  STAR – Student - Services, Housing, and Financial Aid – Registration – Request NSC Enrollment Verification and  print a copy for your records.

ASP (P-1,2,3,4): APhA - ASP welcomes all students to join ASP's 1st General Meeting (Informational Meeting) on Thursday, September 10th @ noon in the Hostler Auditorium. Pizza will be provided. :) Come, come, come! We will be giving away gift cards/prizes.  

SSHP (P-1,2,3,4): SSHP will be having training sessions for Cholesterol/Body fat analysis/Blood Pressure screening on Monday, September 14 @ noon in the Mylan Mock Pharmacy. 1 hour community service will be available. 

NCPA ( P-1,2,3,4): NCPA will be having their first general meeting on 9/9/09 at noon in room 3084.   The National Community Pharmacist Association is geared towards developing the skills of tomorrow's community pharmacist.  Even if you are trying to determine if community pharmacy is for you, then this organization may provide a fun way to find out.  At the meeting we will be introducing our officers, projects, as well as our National Meeting in New Orleans!  We also will be assisting new members in joining our organization!  It is important that if you would like to go to the national meeting that you attend. The date for the meeting again is Wed. Sept. 9th at noon tentatively set for room 3084.

WVPA Annual Meeting (P-1,2,3,4): Oct 30-Nov 1, Stonewall Resort; Student registration + $60 entire meeting, $40 Saturday only, $20 Sunday only. See attached for student-specific information and for the full meeting program.
