Social News (P-1,2,3,4): Congratulations to Ashley Reed (P-4) and Adam Ross (first year WVU Medical Student) who got engaged at SnowShoe Ski Resort on Dec. 19, 2007. A wedding is being planned for June 2009. Congratulations to Papa Casey Watts (P-1,2,3,4): Kendra & Casey recently welcomed their first child, a girl... Casey - 4th year pharmacy student @ WVU (class of 2008) Congratulations!! (P-1,2,3,4): to P-3 Rachel Carson for receiving an NACDS Foundation Scholarship for the 2008-08 academic year. Rachel garnered one of just 45 awards made nationally. Spring Semester Exam Calendars (P-1,2,3): Here's the link to all the exam calendars. Care Partners internship available in Morgantown for Spring 2008 semester (P-2,3); Care Partners, a home infusion company here in Morgantown, is looking to hire at least one intern for the Spring 2008 semester. Hours are flexible- no evening or weekend hours. If interested, please contact Kathy Miller or Dawn Lancaster at 285-5500. Rate of pay is $10/hour. Textbook Donations (P-1,2,3,4): ASP will be collecting used textbooks for IPSF's Book Appeal program, which distributes textbooks to pharmacy schools in developing nations. If you have textbooks you wish to donate, please contact Caity Frail at cfrail@sole.wvu.edu for more information. Bergy Lecture (P-1,2,3,4): The annual Bergy Lecture is scheduled for Monday, April 14 at noon in the HSC Auditorium. Dr. Barry Carter from the Univ. of Iowa will be our distinguished speaker. All P1, P2, and P3 students are expected to attend. P4 Students Awarded National Health Service Corps SEARCH Program Stipend (P-1,2,3,4): Congratulations to Erin Garrett and Jennifer Rogers for receiving funding from the SEARCH program for the spring 2008 semester! SEARCH is the Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community health Program for West Virginia. The NHSC SEARCH Program for West Virginia provides stipends for health profession students and residents to train in under-served areas. The program is funded by the Bureau of Primary Care and administered jointly by the West Virginia University Office of Rural Health and the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health for students who are interested in pursuing primary care in family or general medicine, pharmacy, psychology, social work, dentistry, dental hygiene, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, or pediatrics. In addition to primary care clinical work, students/residents are required to participate in weekly interdisciplinary seminars held within the RHEP consortia. Students/Residents are also required to participate in community projects approved by the preceptor, site coordinator, campus faculty, and SEARCH panel. Both students received their award through an application to the Eastern WV Rural Health Education Consortium. Ms. Garrett will be completing an RHEP rotation with Gary Matthews, PharmD at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, WV and Ms. Rogers will be completing an RHEP rotation with David Brosh, R.Ph. at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. Call for Paul G. Cano Legislative Internship Applicants (P-1,2): The Paul G. Cano Legislative Internship was created in memory of Paul G. Cano, who was American Society of Consultant Pharmacist's first director of government affairs. ASCP is seeking candidates for the 2008 position. The application deadline is March 7. The internship focuses on pharmacy, long-term care, and other current health care issues being considered by federal and state legislative and regulatory bodies. Through this program, the intern will participate in all activities which involve the Society's policy and advocacy department, as well as activities with other students. To qualify for the internship, applicants must be a current pharmacy student enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy. Applicants should have a strong interest in legislative and regulatory affairs. Preference is given to those applicants who have actively participated in one or more professional associations and who possess excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
