PCCA Compounding Boot Camp Scholarship (P-1,2,3): The School of Pharmacy is pleased to announce an opportunity for a student to attend the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) Introductory Compounding Lab Boot Camp in Houston, Texas. The dates for the program are: May 29 - 30, June 16-17, or August 11-12. Ms. Sandra Justice, an alumna of the School of Pharmacy, is offering a $1000 award towards the cost of the meeting for one student (which should pay for most of the trip).

If you are interested in applying for the award, please email me back with a short description (50 to 150 words) of why you are would like to attend the program and/or how you feel the program would assist you in your career development by noon on Friday, May 9th. If you apply, please make sure that the dates do not overlap with your experiential rotations.

Two full days of lecture and hands-on laboratory work provide a basic understanding of the skills, tools and equipment used in contemporary compounding. Students complete eleven dosage forms they take home with them, focusing on dosage forms such as lollipops, lip balms, troches, and transdermal delivery systems. Demonstrations of modern compounding equipment include the Ointment Mill, Electro Mortar-Pestle, Homogenizer, and Heat Sealer. Lectures on various contemporary compounding topics, compounding as a career path, and patient case studies are also on the agenda.
