Dr. Lee Smith and Dr. Mel Wright from the WVU Simulation Center are conducting a research study to examine the impact of an online education module that has been developed to help providers use a decision matrix to evaluate and treat pediatric patients with suspected influenza like illness on participant performance during medical simulation scenarios.

Pediatric H1N1 Decision Matrix Education Module (Please note: The content of this video module is identical to that of the live West Virginia Regional Human Patient Simulation Conference, Featuring the Pediatric H1N1 Decision Matrix Education Module held February 5, 2010 at the West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center in Morgantown, WV. The AMA states that physicians cannot claim credit for attending the same course twice. This course and the live conference would be considered the same course.
Course Description and Who Will Benefit
This video module will provide practical information for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics and emt’s.
Educational Objectives
- After viewing the video module, providers should be able to:
- recognize influenza-like illness in the pediatric population
- apply the ILI decision matrix
- recognize and manage respiratory distress
- recognize and manage shock
