Standardized Patient Newsletter

WV STEPS Construction

Construction on the 3rd floor continues…  We now have an anticipated grand opening date of October 9, 2015!

Funding the Expansion

The exciting expansion of the Simulation Center and the ability to train additional healthcare professionals throughout our schools and system provides us with the opportunity to partner with our friends and our community. If you or someone you know would like to advance simulation training for future healthcare professionals or discuss a naming opportunity, please call 304-293-3980 and ask for Janette Gidley.

New SP Encounters

The School of Dentistry and WVUHealthcare have both expressed interest in using Standardized Patients for teaching and evaluating Communication skills.  Invitations will be sent to those who fit the demographics sometime in the near future.

WV STEPS staff and SPs will celebrate another successful year of simulation with a covered dish picnic at Krepps Park pavilion (adjacent to pool at the corner of Patteson Ave and Beechurst) at 5:00pm on Thursday June 11.  STEPS will provide the meat. Please let us know if you can attend, if you will be bringing a guest, and what dish you plan to bring:

Yes I will attend the summer picnic
No I am not able to attend

Pat Fedeles Award

The ninth winner of the Patricia “Pat” Fedeles Award for Compassion in Physical Diagnosis was presented to Sarah Lively on March 24, 2015.  This award is presented to the second year medical student who portrays ongoing compassion, friendliness, and an overall caring attitude toward patients, peers, faculty, and staff.

GTA Program

Our GTAs continue to impress.  With stellar evaluations again this year, 3 GTAs trained more than 170 medical, nursing and PA students.  Thank you Kristie, Shea, and Teri!!

If you know any healthy, outgoing, 20-40 year old females in the greater Morgantown area who would be interested in earning a significant hourly wage, please send them our way.  Training will take place later this summer.

Conference Presentation

WV STEPS and the School of Medicine will be presenting a research poster at the 14th Annual Association of Standardized Patient Educators Conference in Denver, Colorado entitled: “Standardized Patient Interactions:  A Reliability Study.”
