Description
Fellows in child and adolescent psychiatry routinely screen all of the adolescent patients for substance abuse and then deliver specific substance abuse treatment where indicated. It is an integral part of their training and a requirement of ACGME for at a 1 month equivalent in pediatric addiction psychiatry. The department has far exceeded this requirement and weaves aspects of this information into every facet of their 2 years of training. The acute adolescent inpatient unit nursing staff has a protocol for screening all admissions for substance abuse. The AACAP substance abuse treatment guidelines are followed in terms of assessment and treatment, and it is worth noting that they are different that adult models.
