Summary:
Performs various duties related to patient care
and treatment as directed by attending providers in an outpatient clinic
setting. Provide clerical and clinical
support to medical staff in assigned area.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provide assistance, information and support to
patients and providers during patient visit under supervision of staff nurse
and/or provider.

Reviews medical record for each
patient visit for availability and completeness.
·
Obtains, records and communicates patient
information to nurse and/or provider. (age;
height; weight; height; blood pressure; temperature; pulse; other medical
information)
·
Acts as chaperone during medical
examination.
·
Obtain patient specimens,
document and deliver to appropriate area.
·
Provides point of care testing.
·
Communicate lab results to
provider.
·
Schedules additional tests for
patients as directed.
·
May perform phlebotomy as ordered
·
May administer prescribed
medication under supervision of provider.
·
Answers telephone calls from
patients and discusses information with appropriate staff.
·
Makes return and follow up
telephone calls to patients.
·
Prepares medical record request
for release of information.
2. Maintains appropriate level of inventory of
supplies for patient care needs.
·
Prepares supply orders for
supervisor review.
·
Ensures all rooms have necessary
supplies at all times.
3. May assist with compliance relating to CLIA,
boards and other regulatory agencies.
4. May schedule and coordinate new and return
appointments.
·
Schedule and coordinate
diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures as needed.
·
Obtains prior authorizations for
ancillary testing, if necessary.
5. May assure and assist in registration of
patients.
·
Collect vital information for
purposes of patient identification and billing purposes and enter data into
computer.
·
Obtain signatures for release of
information and consent to treatment.
6. Performs
other duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
·
High school diploma or equivalent
required.
·
Graduate of a formalized
accredited Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant training program required.
·
Certification as a Medical
Assistant or Nursing Assistant is highly desired.
·
Six months work experience.
·
Lab experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics:
·
Position requires contact and appropriate
communication with patients, providers, and other support staff both within and
outside of the work area.
·
Position requires ability to
respond quickly and calmly to varying demands from providers and patients. May require ability to distinguish between
normal and abnormal test results.
·
Position will be required to assist
moving patients to and from exam room and to position and/or lift patients.
·
Work is performed in a normal
clinical environment. Position is
frequently exposed to blood and bodily fluids, as well as communicable disease.
