What happens to my application or resume once I submit it?
The Employment Division of Human Resources will review your qualifications with those of the job for which you have applied. If you do not meet the minimum qualifications of the position, Employment will hold your resume for six months in case something you are qualified for comes open. If you meet the minimum qualifications, your application or resume is then forwarded to the hiring department for their review.
How long are applications kept on file?
Applications will remain active for 6 months for non-hired employees. If hired, the application is put into their personnel file.
How long is the process for an applicant?
Please understand that the review process takes time to accomplish, and you will be contacted if the hiring department is interested in scheduling an interview. Normally, you can expect to hear from Human Resources within 2-3 weeks of applying for a position, if you meet the minimum qualifications. Not all applicants are guaranteed an interview for every position. It depends upon the requirements of the position which the department has set and if a match is made with the applicant’s qualifications. Also, neatness of the application/resume, as well as, grammar, spelling and format play a major role in getting an interview. You may meet the minimum qualifications, but if your resume is incomplete, has misspelled words or is not neat in appearance, you will probably not be selected for an interview.
Can I call to update or reactivate my application?
No. Once the 6 months has passed, you must submit a new application. If you wish to add new information to your application, you must submit a new application.
How do I apply for other positions on the posting?
You must complete an update form for each additional position you are applying for or for each department the position is open in. If your application is still active, it will be pulled and your qualifications will be reviewed for all positions you are updating for. If your application is no longer active, a new application must be completed and sent with the update form.
Is there someone I can contact to follow up on my application?
Yes. You can contact Human Resources at (304)293-4270 to check the status of your application or resume.
Will I be notified regardless if I am interviewed or not when the position is filled?
No. We will contact those applicants that are referred to the specific department for interviews when the position is filled. You can always contact Human Resources at (304) 293-4270 to check your status.
Does UHA have a policy on hiring from within before hiring from outside?
No. UHA is committed to hiring the most qualified candidates for our openings. If an external applicant is more qualified than an internal applicant, the most qualified will be extended an offer. We do have the opportunity for internal employees to promote into higher level positions within their own departments, if their duties have changed in that direction.
As an internal, how can I apply for a different UHA position?
You must complete a Transfer/Promotion form and have it signed by your supervisor. You cannot transfer or promote within your first six months of employment. Along with the Transfer/Promotion form, you must include an updated resume or application in order to be considered for the position for which you have applied.
You must complete a separate Transfer/Promotion form for each position for which you apply.
How long is the process for an internal applicant?
Please understand that the review process takes time to accomplish, and you will be contacted if the hiring department is interested in scheduling an interview. Normally, you can expect to hear from Human Resources within 2-3 weeks of applying for a Transfer/Promotion. Internal applicants are not guaranteed an interview for other positions. It depends upon the requirements of the position which the department has set and if a match is made with the internal’s qualifications.
What happens if I am selected for a position?
Human Resources will contact you by phone to extend the offer and work out starting dates. If you are new to UHA, you will also be scheduled for your New Employee Orientation. Please remember, only Human Resources can extend an official offer of employment to candidates.
When is orientation for new employees?
The Human Resources Department schedules all new employees for orientation upon hire. We try to schedule new employees for orientation on their first day of employment, but in some cases that is not possible. Before starting their first day of employment, new employees will be notified of their orientation date and time. Normally, orientation is held every other Monday at Human Resources starting at 8:00 a.m.
What is covered during orientation?
Basically, Human Resources educate the new employee to UHA's mission, values, and policies. Employees will complete paperwork for payroll and benefits. Employees are provided information on Employee Health and are shown a short video to get them started on the right foot with their department. Corporate compliance training also takes place. When new employees come to orientation, we try to make them feel good about choosing their employment with UHA.
What is a Proficiency Assessment?
A Proficiency Assessment is a computerized tool to assess typing speed and accuracy in a multitude of applications. For secretarial positions, a standard typing assessment measures words-per-minute and accuracy of straight typing or dictation. For all other clerical positions, a data entry assessment measures speed and accuracy for typing names, addresses and phone numbers into fields. The data entry assessment will also measures speed and accuracy of 10-key or number pad skills.
