POSITION SUMMARY:  

As a key member of WVU Medicine’s marketing and communications team, this experienced communicator will be responsible for identifying, shaping and developing high-quality content for WVU Medicine’s news, marketing, and communications materials.

 

This position provides a wide range of communications assistance to the organization, including news and publication writing, photography, videography, content strategy and execution. This position will also provide support in writing/editing feature stories, press releases, internal communication, fact sheets and web content using both print and digital storytelling.

 

This position is also responsible for developing and managing content for the organization’s family of websites and contributing/managing the organization’s social media content for various social media platforms.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Bachelor’s degree

EXPERIENCE:

1.

3 years in one of the following:

· a news, communication, marketing, advertising, or public relations program for a healthcare organization, college, news media organization, government agency, business, or other large knowledge-based organization, or

· interviewing, writing, and editing, or

· media relations

2.

OR 2 years in one of the above and 1 year in web content creation, editing, or publishing

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field.

1.

Promotes wider public recognition, awareness and support of the organization and the activities and achievements of faculty and staff

2.

Develops content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing targets

3.

Serves as a writer and assists with the planning, development, production and assessment of communications in all media. Develops multimedia content, including digital video, audio and still photography.

4.

Coordinates websites and creates effective written and multimedia web content for employee-, patient- or research-oriented sites with an understanding of best internet practices. Ensures consistency and effectiveness of presentation for all website elements, including content and image optimization and page structure. Adopts new technologies as industry standards grow and change.

5.

Maintains regular and frequent contact with sources in the hospital, clinics, departments and centers to solicit relevant information to highlight and promote organization’s achievements through distribution of news releases, opinion pieces, web features, internal communication, and other communication vehicles.

 Serve as a liaison between WVU Health Sciences Center and the Department.

8.

Works closely with WVU Medicine Marketing and Communications colleagues and others to ensure all materials are properly branded using the WVU Medicine brand/style/trademark guidelines.

9.

Serve as a content editor for internally- and externally-facing writing projects.

10.

Assists, as needed, with WVU Medicine events as assigned. Facilitates production of publicity materials for events and other unit activities.

11.

Demonstrates the capacity to understand the significance of assigned areas, and places information before faculty, staff and the public in an accessible and compelling form. Coordinates with other communicators from across the Health System and University to achieve this goal.

12.

Organizes and coordinates the work of other staff and students as assigned.

13.

Maintains positive relations with public, state and federal officials, as well as WVU Medicine constituency groups and stakeholders.
