POSITION SUMMARY:   To provide leadership and management of the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the audiology department.  Directs and evaluates departmental procedures, including patient care delivery, technologies, staffing levels and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives, including HIPAA compliance. Leads community outreach and the development of best-practice diagnostic and rehabilitative policies and procedures. Provides direct clinical care and supervision of Audiologists in the delivery of quality clinical services.  Acts as liaison between audiology personnel and administration and staff. Oversees maintenance of clinic equipment and determines need for repair, upgrade or replacement. Maintains relationships with hearing aid manufacturer representatives insuring optimum pricing, ongoing product updates and continuing education opportunities. Monitors performance of the clinical audiologists, collaborates with clinic manager and administrator concerning optimization of audiology templates, budget and financial objectives. Collaborates with faculty regarding support of community outreach and marketing of audiology services.  Functions as clinical audiologist providing direct patient care as schedule allows or as client caseload demands in accordance with the job description of clinical audiologist.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Doctor of Audiology (AuD) or PhD degree in Audiology required.

2.

Must possess current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A).

3.

Must be eligible for West Virginia State Licensure in Audiology.

EXPERIENCE:

1.

3-5 years of comprehensive clinical experience required

1.

To provide clinical leadership and management of the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the clinical audiologists with direct accountability to the Chairman.  Provides direct clinical care, training and supervision of Audiologists in the delivery of quality clinical services to ensure standards of practice are met. 

2.

Manages daily productivity standards and monitors clinician and section productivity in relation to targeted efficiency. 

3.

Responsible for clinical, educational, research and administrative oversight of the Audiology Services at WVU Medicine and its satellite facilities and the development of these programs within the Otolaryngology Department in the School of Medicine.

4.

Responsible for all personnel management of audiologists to include hiring, firing, corrective action, performance evaluations, professional development to include goals and objectives, etc.   

5.

Provides fiscal/budgetary oversight of the audiological program. 

6.

Assist in the training of residents in Otolaryngology and the supervision of graduate students enrolled in clinical practical experience in audiology.

7.

Identifies appropriate internal controls and quality measures; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

8.

Acts as audiology consultant to educational, medical, and other professional service. Continuously seeks to improve patient care services and evaluates opportunities to develop new services. Coordinates and prioritizes the patient caseload to ensure that all patient services are provided in an efficient manner in order to minimize delay in diagnosis or therapeutic intervention. Provides patient services in a professional manner which maximizes efficiency, efficacy and quality without need for direct supervision. Recommends new services and/or enhanced techniques.

Develops, maintains and interprets departmental policies and procedures.

Supports the department in implementing the department’s clinical research programs.

11.

Acts as liaison with other departments, physicians, and other specialists, and outside agencies.

12.

Works with department administration to identify, develop and implement long range goals for the audiology department and to ensure the growth of services.

13.

Provide direction and growth of our cochlear implant program and hearing aid program.

14.

Develops process improvement initiatives to enable continual improvement of audiology services.

15.

This position will provide the directions of audiology clinic in conjunction with other health care disciplines including ENT, but also Pediatrics, NICU, and PICU.

16.

Oversees the hospital's infant universal hearing screening program at WVU Medicine and ensures compliance with all regulations. Provides education to staff and physicians and monitors staff competency process for providing screening.

17.

Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. Demonstrates knowledge of physical, motor/sensory, mental, psychosocial, safety and development factors in the Age-Specific Care Guidelines. Ensures the ongoing assessment, maintenance, demonstration and continual improvement of staff competence related to age-specific needs of patients. Utilizes communication skills in obtaining information, providing education and conveying patient needs sensitive to age and developmental level of the individual patient/family. Maintains competence related to age-specific patient care by regularly updating knowledge of growth and development, the aging process and strategies to meet related needs.

18.

Provides and participates in the in-service education and training of audiology interns, medical students/residents, parent groups, and allied medical personnel. Prepares and presents formal lectures to physicians, nurses, educators, parent groups and others on hearing loss, audiology, and communication disorders. Participates in in-service education programs to ensure proficiency in current techniques for the evaluation and treatment of patients. Coordinates and assigns ENT resident audiology lecture schedule.

19.

Performs comprehensive, professional audiology evaluation of patients of all ages, primarily adults, referred for differential diagnosis of peripheral hearing and auditory function. Selects and administers the audiological test battery most appropriate for the patient’s age, developmental level, and cognitive function. Demonstrates in specialized audiological tests, including acoustic immittance, otoacoustic emissions, hearing aid evaluation, cochlear implant evaluation, administration of traditional audiological procedures, evoked potential testing and electronystagmography.  Provides accurate interpretation of all diagnostic test findings. Consulting verbally with referring physicians, as necessary, to facilitate appropriate management. Prepares written diagnostic reports for the referring physician, school, and/or agency on a timely basis.

20.

Ensures that patients and/or their families are thoroughly counseled about any hearing or auditory impairment. Provides individual counseling to each patient evaluated. Expands counseling to include members of extended family where requested by the patient and in the case of neonates, children, or dependent adults. Reviews communication treatment and management options with the patient and/or family. Coordinates recommendations related to management and/or educational needs with outside agencies and other resources, as appropriate and necessary. Documents above activities in patient’s department file and/or hospital medical record. Plans and recommends management for persons with hearing loss or other auditory disorders. Develops goals for patient’s habilitative or rehabilitative management with amplification and assistive devices. Recommends hearing aids, cochlear implants, and aural rehabilitation for patients for whom these options are appropriate based upon audiologic and medical evaluation. Maintains proficiency in current techniques to remediate the effects of peripheral hearing loss and other auditory disorders. Reevaluates patient management periodically in order to determine progress and modifying recommendations accordingly. Documents above activities in patient’s department file and/or hospital.

21.

Evaluate patients in OR on an as needed basis.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Proven competency in evaluation of complex hearing losses, aural rehabilitation, and dispensing of assistive devices as shown by internal evaluation and departmental competencies.
