POSITION SUMMARY 

Assess and treat individuals with mental illnesses and/or substance abuse problems. Provision of individual, family and group therapy for an adult primarily in a behavioral health environment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Master’s Degree in related field.

2.

If hired after December 1, 2018, must have WV Licensure in field of study, which permits practicing psychotherapy and specifically meets guidelines for commercial payors.  If hired prior to December 1, 2018, we encourage staff to work toward terminal licensure in their field. 

 

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).

 

NOTE: Non-independently licensed therapists must obtain their independent licensure within 3 years of employment

3.

West Virginia state and Federal criminal background check required for DHHR WV CARES regulated area.

4.

Valid driver’s license for employees of the Adolescent Services, Day Hospital and ACT.

5.

Only Required if responding to Mental Hygiene Petition: Completion of State-Required training to become a certified Mental Hygiene Petition Evaluator.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Advanced certification preferred when applicable.

2.

Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

EXPERIENCE:

1.

Prior experience in a mental health program preferred.

 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1.

Provide psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify emotional, social, and community strengths and problems related to their diagnosis, illness, treatment, and/or life situation.

2.

Participates as clinical personnel in a treatment area and facilitates therapeutic milieu on the treatment unit, when applicable.

3.

Formulate, develop, and implement comprehensive psychosocial treatment plans utilizing appropriate and evidence based psychotherapy treatments and interventions. Interventions may include crisis intervention, brief and long-term individual, marital, family and/or group therapies as well as grief and bereavement work.

4.

Screen, identify, diagnose, treat and manage mental health and/or substance abuse problems in patients and family members. Provide psychotherapy to individuals with a variety of presenting problems including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, through disorders, trauma, and autism spectrum. May perform these functions independently or as part of a team.

5.

Provide consultative services to health care team members within scope of care definitions as needed. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues that impact on patient care, e.g., advance directives, child and elder abuse.

6.

Provide education to patients and families around issues related to adaptation to the patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment and/or life situation

7.

Participate in multi-disciplinary health care teams and represent clinical social work perspective/liaison with patient and family

8.

Maintain working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and resources so as to assist patients and families as needed.

9.

Maintain knowledge of hospital, medical center and/or health system resources to access and provide for patient care needs.

10.

Document assessment, plan, interactions, and interventions according to departmental, hospital and/or health system guidelines and standards.

11.

Maintain electronic medical records and documentation in accordance with department, hospital, medical center and/or health system policies. Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings

12.

Participate in department, hospital, medical center, and/or health system continuous quality improvement efforts

13.

Participate in regular professional conferences; keep current with social work and evidence based treatment of mental disorders and seek to increase further enhancement of job related knowledge.

14.

Maintains appropriate certification, licensure and competency through supervision and/or training and successful completion of annual performance evaluations.

15.

Adheres to performance expectations of WVUH-USC employees.

16.

If responding to a mental health petition, will perform the following duties: Assesses psychiatric needs of respondents to Mental Hygiene petition.

17.

Completes report for the court thoroughly and in a timely manner.

18.

If applicable, testifies in court findings from evaluation.

19.

Interviews family members and friends if applicable for collateral information that may be needed to complete evaluation

Based on assignment, The work environment could see minimal time in the office at United Summit Center (no more than 30% of the work week).The majority of the time, the employee will be in the homes and living spaces (work, recreation, leisure etc.) of the community based clientele of the program.  This will include areas that have sub-par hygienic characteristics.

If hired in to 100% site based outpatient clinic, this will include extended periods of sitting.
