POSITION SUMMARY: The Integration Engineer is responsible for coordinating and building the integration of applications within the enterprise. This includes authoring integration specifications that define the interaction between the applications and development of the interfaces using Application Tools, Interface Engine, HL7 FHIR, API and/or Web Services connectors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required or equivalent experience or four (4) years’ experience working with systems applications including design, testing, troubleshooting problems; programming or HL7 Message Structure and Events, API or Web Services required.

2.

Three (3) years’ experience working with systems applications including design, testing and troubleshooting problems, required.

3.

Three (3) years’ programming experience, required; Three (3) years’ HL7 Message Structure and Events, API or Web Services required or a combination of both.

4.

This position may require additional certification in support of the responsibilities of the position, which will be provided by WVUHS Information Technology. Certification completion will be required within four months of formal certification training completion.

5.

Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in current position in order to qualify for promotion within IT.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1.

Experience with scripting languages, such as UNIX, TCL, shell or PERL, preferred.

ERP

·         Familiarity with Workday, Salesforce, Peoplesoft or other ERP Integration’s with Core Connectors, Studio, Web Services

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1.

Application/Integration Design and Programming: Builds, tests and implements moderately complex specifications and changes for customers and vendors, systems professionals, and affiliated organizations. Implements protocol required in making system/application integration modification(s). Developer/Innovator with moderately complex third-party systems using middleware, interface engine, and/ or Integration EDI toolsets. Develops user manuals for Interface Build and Support. Completes service requests/problem resolution for moderately complex business systems or integration solutions. Utilizes knowledge to provide Implementation and Modification Support Services for customers. Trains interface staff and/or customers on interface requirements and error resolution. Uses knowledge of applications to investigate, recommend and implement software solutions to address operational requirements. This includes implementation of in-house developed modifications to existing software, vendor upgrades/maintenance releases to existing software, and/or implementation of new software solutions. With guidance from Senior Integration Engineer, when needed, determines if design of applications, enhancements and/or modifications fulfills current needs, as well as provides sufficient flexibility for future needs. Tests all application changes to ensure accuracy and quality of change.

2.

Implementing Software/Integration Solutions: Independently develops moderately complex Interface Engine coding based on specifications and assists in application design and implementation. Completes the analyses, design, testing and implementation of interfaces. Defines, implements and maintains components of the Interface Engine architecture in conjunction with staff and management. Completes the development of interface specifications in conjunction with staff and vendors. Provides design concepts and specifications for any interface, including standards and methodology. Installs and customizes the application integration/EDI tools and Interface Engine software to accommodate various applications.  Performs maintenance and enhancements to application integration/EDI tools and Interface Engine coding components based on specification plans and executes testing of this code. Develops and implements standard data sets for all interfaces and enforces that these standards are maintained. Develops, writes and maintains detailed documentation of current tables, including all changes and reasons for changes. Develops, or acquires and customizes and tests system/application components and interfaces. Utilize protocols for transfer of data between applications. Prepares test scripts for integration workflows.

3.

Business Recovery: Ensures that the applications/systems, for which this position is responsible for, are recoverable in the event of software or hardware failure, in alignment with business criticality needs, HIPAA, or other regulatory requirements. Coordinates the preparation and testing of the organization’s Disaster and Recovery Plan for their systems.

4.

Project Coordination: Defines tasks and creates team work plans with moderate supervision. Delegates work to others and monitors progress. Identifies issues affecting work progress and recommends solutions. Assists Senior Integration Engineer in controlling project costs, communicating any project-related expenses and recommends ways to control costs (if assigned). Apprises schedule variances and potential scope changes, task, goals and milestones in status reports and/or appropriate personnel.   Measure the progress toward goals and revises work plan accordingly. Participates with management personnel in planning, direction, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives. Functions as the project coordinator when assigned by management. Duties include project time management, task and personnel coordination and scope management. Follows hospital’s project management methodology. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple simple to moderately complex assigned task Delegates work to Associate Integration Engineer and monitors progress. Assures project changes or additions are updated using appropriate Project Management Toolsets. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple simple to moderately complex assigned task. Provides input into the assessment of appropriate work effort for a task or project.

5.

Team Building: Assist and mentors co-workers. Performs the following core duties: participates in mentoring, training, and development of other employees. Seeks and respects the views of others, including patients/families and customers when appropriate. Creates and updates internal documentation for team members to use. Coaches and provides support/encouragement for employees to exceed their own expectations.

6.

This position may require travel to other West Virginia United Health System (WVUHS) facilities or affiliated sites to assist with implementations, training, and/or support

7.

Adheres to the established policies of the WVUHS as well as the policies of the entity or entities where the IT team member is assigned to work and/or employed.

 

8.

Accepts on-call responsibilities and responds with action, either by phone call or on-site as defined by Department Policy.

9.

Other duties may be assigned.
