POSITION SUMMARY: Assist in the delivery of
medical/surgical nursing care under the direction and supervision of a
Registered Nurse to a patient population ranging from infancy to geriatric, who
present with varying stages of development, and diverse physical, cognitive and
coping abilities, literacy levels, ethnic back-grounds and health beliefs.
Utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN)
assesses, plans, implements and evaluates, in collaboration with the patient,
family and other health team members, the nursing care for assigned patients,
demonstrating clinical competency and maintaining standards of professional
nursing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid WV LPN license. Minimum of one year health care experience
preferred. BLS required
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Able to wear latex or
vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing.
2. Use a computer keyboard,
monitor and mouse and be able to use and apply hospital software programs.
3. Answer telephones and
transcribe messages and use patient call system.
4. Must have or acquire
the ability to operate patient care equipment.
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Cap; Gown; Mask; Eye cover; Gloves;
Waterproof Shoe covers, prn; Lead Apron,
prn; Laser Glasses, prn.
5. Communicate verbally,
written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
6. Must be flexible and
work other than the normal shift when needed and able to take call. May be required to leave work early or asked
to work overtime as deemed by the work load.
7. May be required to
travel between facilities/buildings.
8. May be exposed to
virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
9. May be exposed to
traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.
10. Must meet Department
of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds
of force
occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force
frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
11. Able to bend, stoop,
reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 11-12 hour
shift.
12. Able to ambulate,
position, turn and pull up self-assisting adult patients.
13. While performing
duties of this job the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles,
toxic or caustic chemicals, risk or electrical shock, risk of radiation and
infectious/blood borne diseases. This
job may be fast pace.
14. This position may
require unsupervised access to restricted areas that may contain medications,
supplies and patient confidential information.
15. Must be proficient in
the use of assorted equipment supplies and techniques associated with the
delivery of
patient
care.

to physicians, orders and RN supervision, demonstrates age appropriate
medication administration while using two unique patient identifiers.
Documents medication administration accurately, including its effectiveness
when appropriate. Scans patient and medication barcodes in Meditech 85
%(Meditech % is JMC standard) of the time on units that use BMV as
applicable. |
