National Excellence in Worksite Wellness Award, Platinum Level
The Wellness Program is very proud to announce that our WVU Health Sciences Campus has just been named a Platinum level recipient of the National Excellence in Worksite Wellness (N.E.W.W.) Award! The criteria for this award were developed by members of the National Network of Independent Wellness Councils, with contributions from the Centers for Disease Control and the staff of the Mayo Clinic.
The Platinum level designation is the highest level possible for this award, and recognizes the efforts of West Virginia University Hospitals (WVUH), University Health Associates (UHA) and the WVU Health Sciences Center (HSC) to promote the health and well being of all employees. The WVU Health Sciences Campus will be honored at the annual West Virginia Governor’s Conference on Worksite Wellness, October 16-17, 2008, in Charleston, WV.

This award, co-presented by The Wellness Councils of America and the Wellness Council of West Virginia, acknowledges the Health Sciences Center as one of the healthiest institutions to work in West Virginia!
University Health Associates, West Virginia University Hospitals, and now The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center all hold the coveted Well Workplace Gold Award designation!
"As an institution devoted to healthcare and education, the Health Sciences Center has committed itself to providing an environment that supports employees' good health. It is our shared goal to provide opportunities for staff to achieve physical fitness, mental health, and an awareness of the value of good nutrition," stated Robert M. D'Alessandri, MD, Vice President for Health Sciences, Bruce McClymonds, President, WVU Hospitals, and Robert Wright, former President, University Health Associates in a joint statement.
To date, nearly 700 national organizations, representing approximately 1.2 million employees, and 75 West Virginia companies have achieved Well Workplace status. Well Workplace designated companies positively impact the lives of over 60,000 West Virginia workers and their families with over 6,000 of those workers located at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center.
"Well Workplace defines the standard of excellence for worksite health promotion and emphasizes its integration into the corporate culture. We congratulate West Virginia University Hospitals, University Health Associates, and West Virginia University at the Health Sciences Center for their commitment to improving the health status of their employees," said Gary Sams, chairman of the Wellness Councils of West Virginia Board of Directors.
