While most people tend to associate Dr. Dean
Ornish's program with his diet, it is only one of the program's four
components. The other components are equally important for success in
reversing heart disease.

foods nutrition plan that emphasizes whole grains, fresh vegetables, and
fruit. The nutrition component focuses on plant-based, fat/oil-free cooking and eating. Registered
dietitians provide lectures on weight

Stress Management
Because of the strong correlation between mental
wellness and physical health, participants are taught techniques such as stretching, relaxation, breathing,
visualization, and med itation that reduce
stress and increase awareness of the mind/body
connection. Instruction is also given
on how to handle everyday pressures and stresses to avoid unnecessary and
unhealthy changes in blood pressure and heart rate.
