Welcome to the internet home of the
West Virginia University Institute for Health Policy Research. You may have
previously known us as the West Virginia University Center for Healthcare
Policy and Research, but we longed for something simpler fewer words and shorter initials (WVIHPR).
We are an organization committed
to the improvement of health status and quality of life for the
citizens of this State. For some of our staff, West Virginia is
home, for others, it is a place we have chosen because of the unique
characteristics of the land and its people, and the many opportunities
and avenues through which health services and policy research can
make a difference for positive change.
We are part of West Virginia Universitys Robert C. Byrd Health
Sciences Center which, under the leadership of Dr. Robert DAlessandri,
is a center of excellence as it achieves its three-pronged mission
of education, service and research. In each of these areas, the Health Sciences Center s
visioning and actions reach far beyond the traditional as it seeks
to be continuously relevant to the needs of this mostly rural state.
The Institute is a relatively new part of the Health Sciences Center focused on research that
can both inform and support policies that improve services and health
for communities and populations.
We have been able to develop many excellent partnerships for financial
support, for expanding our research capacity, and for providing
a forum for discussion about policy research which may have significant
benefit to West Virginians. Through these partnerships, the Institute
has had the opportunity to work in different social and geographic
environments, undertaking wide-ranging inquiries related to health
services research, and bringing this knowledge back to inform the
circumstances of healthcare delivery in our West Virginia communities.
In so doing, we try to be consistent in our most basic role supporting
policy decision makers in their work to improve the health status
of West Virginians through more effective and efficient use of resources
and programs.
In recognition of their support, we
would like to thank all of our partnering organizations. |
