The West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience supports broad-based research across 40 laboratories housed in modern research facilities. The mission of the Center is to advance knowledge in basic and translational neuroscience through team-based interdisciplinary research in the following focus areas: sensory, cognitive, and behavioral neuroscience; neural injury, including stroke; neurodegeneration; and neuropsychiatric diseases. The Center offers state-of-the-art technical capabilities and techniques such as genomics, non-linear optical microscopy, transgenic animal and microarray facilities, three-dimensional tissue analysis, and human neuroimaging using high field MRI and combined PET/CT imaging. These capabilities are supported by a CoBRE grant from the National Center for Research Resources/NIH as well as by institutional resources.

West Virginia University is a comprehensive, land grant University with 185 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs and an enrollment of 28,840 students, including 6,910 professional and graduate students. The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Nursing.Recent expansion at the Health Sciences Center includes two new research buildings,
