Two Tenure-Track Faculty Positions
Neural Development, Function of Neural Circuits

The West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/wvucn/) is recruiting faculty to join a vigorous and rapidly growing research environment. Two positions are available: one focused on molecular and cellular biology of nervous system development or repair, and a second focused on functional analysis of neuronal circuits underlying perception, cognition or behavior. Preference will be given to applicants using advanced genetic, molecular or imaging tools, and to applicants who would interact with and enrich our existing research foci in sensory neuroscience and targeted growth areas in cortical processing, development and stroke.  Successful candidates will occupy space alongside neuroscience colleagues in a newly constructed research building, equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities. These facilities include a staffed non-linear optical microscopy, gene expression and transgenic rodent cores.

Applicants with PhD and/or MD degrees at all academic ranks will be considered, but preference will be given to those with strong, well established research programs. Startup packages are highly competitive, and salaries include a significant state-funded component. Participation in the educational mission of the School of Medicine is expected through teaching in graduate and professional programs. Primary faculty appointments will be made in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy or Department of Otolaryngology/HNS.

The WVU Health Sciences Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Nursing, each with health professional and graduate programs. Growing research and clinical programs in all schools provide state-wide access to patient populations. Two new research buildings totaling 200,000 sq. ft. have been constructed recently on the Health Sciences campus to accommodate our dynamic research agenda.

Candidates should send a letter summarizing research interests and future directions, curriculum vitae and the names of three references, in confidence, either electronically (c/o afsmith@hsc.wvu.edu or by mail to: Search Committee, c/o Allyn Smith, Administrator, Center for Neuroscience, PO Box 9304, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV 26506-9304.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
