Housing (SURI)

Interns will receive a $3,000 stipend and a $1,000 housing allowance to cover living expenses in Morgantown. For those opting for the Center's housing package, payment (~$1000) will be handled directly by the Center for Neuroscience and the amount will be deducted from the stipend. Space for our interns is presently reserved in WVU's Pierpont Apartments (pictured; within a quarter-mile walk from the Health Sciences Center), comprised of a kitchen, living area, multiple bedrooms and, depending upon the floor plan, 1-2 baths. Each kitchen in the Pierpont Apartments provides residents with cooking appliances (refrigerator, stove/over, microwave, and dishwasher); a Kroger's grocery store and many restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Interns are not obligated to choose the Center's housing package and may secure their own housing arrangements in the Morgantown area to which the housing allowance will apply; however, a three-month summer contract through private apartment complexes in town is generally difficult to secure. Most complexes only offer 12-month contracts. The best alternative is to sublet an apartment under contract with a WVU student who will be gone for the summer. If this option interests you, please see the classified ads from local newspapers listed below (updated daily).

Please keep in mind that the deadline to place a reservation in WVU's Pierpont Apartments is March 31; in other words, should interns wish to investigate alternative housing options, their "safety net" to select Pierpont will only be available until the end of March. If an intern has not reserved space in Pierpont by this deadline (through Stacey Malecky ), you will be obligated to find your own housing.

The WVU Office of Student Life's web page lists information about off-campus housing and provides a search engine for available rental properties in Morgantown. [Click here]
