Seeking study participants to determine how CBD impacts driving performance

Ever wonder if Cannabidiol (CBD) affects driving performance? If so, we need your help with a driving simulation study! A research study is being conducted at the Health Sciences Center at West Virginia University. The study consists of three short surveys, a urine test for drugs and pregnancy (if applicable), 11 short cognitive tests that will be taken twice and two driving simulation sessions (~10 and ~40 minutes). The study will take ~5 hours to complete.

The purpose of the study is to determine whether CBD impacts driving performance, cognition and sedation among healthy adults by dose or sex using a driving simulator. Your participation could help inform current and future public safety initiatives. Participants will be randomized to receive either 300 mg of CBD, 150 mg of CBD or placebo oil.

In order to participate, you must meet the following inclusion criteria:

  1. Be 18-30 years of age
  2. Have a current drivers’ license
  3. Have driven at least once in the past 30 days
  4. Be able to read English
  5. Willing to be randomized and comply with study requirements including a urine drug test, pregnancy test (if applicable) and complete a test drive to ensure the absence of simulation sickness
  6. Not currently taking any daily prescription medications excluding birth control
  7. Have not been diagnosed with any serious chronic disease by a licensed healthcare provider
  8. Have a friend willing to drive you home after testing or you are willing to be driven home by taxi or ride share after testing completion

If you have any questions about this study and would like to participate, please feel free to contact Cindy Fisher-Duda at cynthia.fisherduda@hsc.wvu.edu or 304-685-2960, or Toni Marie Rudisill, Ph.D. (Principal Investigator), WVU School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, at 717-817-3028 or trudisill@hsc.wvu.edu.

Approval of this study by West Virginia University Institutional Review Board is on file.

Participants who complete the study will receive a $100 Visa gift card and breakfast.
