CE and CME credit is available for all health professions Tuesday, March 28, through Friday, March 31. Please register for activities by Friday, March 24, at hsc.wvu.edu/ipeweekce. Registration for activities on Friday, March 31, is required.

 

MONDAY, MARCH 27

  • Poster session of interprofessional projects and activities
  • Narcan simulation by Russell Doerr, CHSE, simulation specialist, WVSTEPS
  • Ice cream social sponsored by the IPE office. Get to know the other professions at the HSC and enjoy a bowl of ice cream topped with your favorite treats!

TUESDAY, MARCH 28
12:00-1:00pm, Okey Patteson Auditorium

“An Interprofessional Approach to Tobacco Cessation” by Susan Morgan, DDS, WVU School of Dentistry. Dr. Morgan will discuss how the WVU School of Dentistry, working in partnership with the HSC Office of Interprofessional Education, is leading the effort to become an accredited Tobacco Treatment Specialist Program. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29

“An Interprofessional Approach to Childhood Obesity” by Cindy Fitch, Ph.D., and Emily Murphy, Ph.D. Drs. Fitch and Murphy of WVU Extension Service will discuss childhood obesity—a critical issue that impacts society—and how the WVU Extension Service extends the resources of the university into the community to address this issue and others in partnership with local stakeholders. THURSDAY, MARCH 30

“IPE through Community Outreach” by Lew Holloway, M.S., center director, Northern WV Rural Health Education Center. This presentation will focus on recent IPEs made available through rural immersion projects intended to create opportunities for meaningful interaction between students and a variety of community members.      “Development of A Substance Use Disorders Course for Health Professions Students: From Learning in the Classroom to Applying on the Floors” by Andrew Muzyk, Pharm.D., associate professor of pharmacy practice at the Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and clinical specialist in internal medicine-psychiatry at Duke University Hospital; and Shelley Holmer, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine.     Panel discussion with Drs. George, Holmer and Muzyk

The goal of Friday’s programming is to provide faculty with the tools to develop and implement a statewide interprofessional education program to address the opioid addiction problem in West Virginia. Lunch will be provided in Room 2940 from 1:00-1:30pm for those who participate in both sessions. Registration information coming soon.
