Health Sciences students encouraged to participate in interprofessional innovation challenge

Students enrolled in WVU Health Sciences programs are invited to participate in the Interprofessional Student Clinic Innovation Challenge. Projects must be submitted by Oct. 4.

This year, teams of students are challenged with developing and implementing a healthcare project to address an identified healthcare issue within the state of West Virginia as well as an objective of Healthy People 2030. The Interprofessional Student Clinic Innovation Challenge is a pilot project for the 2024-25 academic year.

Project Details

  • Teams must be comprised of learners (students or residents) from two or more health professional disciplines. Students from non-health professional programs may be part of the team.
    • Priority will be given to projects with a greater number of disciplines involved.
  • The project must address the following:
    • a major health concern in West Virginia as defined by the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Services
    • a Healthy People 2030 Objective
  • Projects must be implemented within the state of West Virginia.
    • Projects must include development and implementation as well as a sustainability plan.
    • Clinical initiatives are encouraged.
  • Teams can request up to $2,500 in funding.
  • Funded teams must collect data throughout their project and disseminate their work through scholarly activities.
    • All teams will present their work as a poster presentation during WVU Health Sciences Interprofessional Education Week once the project is completed.
    • All teams will develop an abstract for presentation at a national meeting.
    • Scholarly mentorship will be provided by the IPE/STEPS researcher.
  • Up to four projects will be funded.

    • Description of project, include project timelines. Please note that the project may span one to two years.

    • West Virginia Health Challenges/Healthy People 2030 objectives addressed
    • Location(s) of implementation
    • Results you hope to achieve at the end of this project (project impact on population)
      • How many people do you hope to impact?
    • Plans to collect data throughout the project planning and implementation
  • Video clip (5-8 minutes)
    • Introduce team members (all must be part of the video)
    • PowerPoint may be used
    • Overview of project
    • Objectives
    • Why your group chose this project
    • Why makes this project is innovative? Has it been done before?
    • Results you hope to achieve at the end of this project
    • Plans to collect data throughout the project planning and implementation
    • Plans for connecting to the community
  • Project budget
    • Outline of how the requested funding will be used
  • Letter of support from faculty advisor for the project (one page maximum)

Application is available online and should be completed by October 4, 2024.

An interprofessional team of faculty, staff and students will review student projects. The evaluation rubric is available for review and feedback will be provided to all teams who submit a project.
