HIV / IPE Volunteer Opportunity for HSC Students

Health Sciences students have an opportunity to participate in HIV Workforce Development. Two hours of community service will be awarded, as well as a $10 gift card after completion.

Requirements to participate: Must be a third or fourth year medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, or public health student

Benefits for you: Grow a new skillset by interacting with a person with HIV. Fostering a team-based model of care during the group debrief and care plan development. Reduction of stigma associated with the management of HIV.

Project purpose: The purpose of this project is to determine if working as an interprofessional team is superior to the individual provision of care in improving quality and outcomes in persons with HIV.

Time involved:

  • 30-45 minutes for the Initial Standardized Patient (SP) intervention and development of your individual care plan.
  • 90-75 minutes to develop a group care plan and session debrief.

Benefits for patients: Potential for strengthening the HIV workforce and bridging current gaps in HIV care.

Intervention: As a representative from your school, you will virtually interview a Standardized Patient (SP) who is living with HIV, followed immediately by writing your own individual care plan according to discipline of study. You will then come together virtually as a group of interprofessional students to develop a comprehensive care plan, to be immediately followed a group debriefing session.
