Microsoft making new version of Teams the default interface

A new version of Microsoft Teams that makes it easier to collaborate across the main WVU and Health Sciences environments will become the default platform starting Sunday, March 31.

Information Technology Services recommends all WVU employees switch to the new Teams, released in January, as soon as possible to become familiar with the differences.

Your ability to switch between the classic and new clients should remain available until mid-May. Once Microsoft fully retires classic Teams, any remaining users will be moved into the new Teams. You won’t need to take any action when this occurs; all files, chats and other data will automatically appear in the new Teams.

Teams is a free and secure Microsoft 365 collaboration tool that provides a chat-centered workspace where groups and individuals can quickly communicate, meet, and share files.

If you’re new to using Teams for collaboration, check out these resources — WVU Login required.

New Teams has improved notifications for people who need to work in both the main WVU version and the Health Sciences version of Teams. You can seamlessly toggle back and forth between the two environments by clicking a button in your profile in the upper right corner.
