Welcome new Health Affairs team members

Join us in welcoming new members to the SPH Health Affairs team!

Shay M. Daily, PhD, MPH, MCHES, has joined the Health Affairs and Health Research Center teams as a research associate. Shay collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders to support ongoing evaluations related to the mitigation of substance use issues in West Virginia. His daily tasks include the design, implementation, analysis, translation, and dissemination of evaluation findings to inform programmatic decisions and sustainability. He emphasizes using a collaborative learning approach among community stakeholders, which acts as a guide to help practitioners connect to the value of program evaluation, the importance of human relationships, and the social context as a way to best promote population health.

Jonathan Herczyk is a new program coordinator with Health Affairs. Jonathan will be focusing his efforts on updating the WV State Medicaid Health Information Technology Plan (SHMP) with Bob Duval and Tom Gilpin.

Jonathan Young, PhD, is a program manager with the Health Affairs team. His work focuses primarily on providing technical management of the operational functions and support for the State Targeted Response/State Opioid Response grants and collaborating with WVU personnel and counterparts at other institutions. Additionally, Jonathan provides analytic policy support and develops and prioritizes legislative needs in collaboration with WVU Government Relations.

Marco Schaaf, MPH, MBA, joined the Health Affairs team as a health data analyst. Marco is an embedded analyst in the Bureau for Medical Services in Charleston, WV, where he serves as a WVU representative and liaison to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources for health data analytics and policy research. His many responsibilities include background policy and research review, analysis of Medicaid claims data, and the preparation of reports for various state, university, and external agency officials as assigned.
