WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus alum presents research poster at health conference
KEYSER, W. Va. — A WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus alum recently presented a research poster at the WV Rural Health Association Annual Conference.
Katrina Roxas, a May 2022 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduate, was an Honors EXCEL student while attending the Keyser Campus. She completed her EXCEL project by conducting a research study related to homesickness.
Her poster, “Homesickness Among Rural Appalachian University Students,” was presented during the conference Nov. 15-17, 2023, at the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.
“Presenting my work at the conference was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I did it,” Roxas shared. “We received some great feedback and suggestions. I don’t think I can thank you enough for these opportunities.”
Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair, added, “Katrina’s passion for this topic is evident in all she does – from when she started in the BSN program to now, post-graduation, presenting her work at this conference. Her EXCEL project activities are still implemented on this campus today, from speed friending events to promote a sense of belongingness, to work that RAs do to promote a sense of family and support. She made her mark here on the Keyser campus.”
