A performance improvement initiative that aims to increase staff hand washing in the presence of patients before administering care began Feb. 1 on 7 Northeast. The initiative will be implemented throughout Ruby Memorial on May 1.
As part of the project, patients are given hand-hygiene signs in their admission packet. They are encouraged to display a sign if a caregiver doesn't wash their hands or use hand gel immediately after entering their room.
Follow-up questions are being asked during discharge to help assess the number of staff following hand-hygiene protocol.
