B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing at WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital graduates 99th class

GLEN DALE, W.Va. – The B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing held a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2018 yesterday (Aug. 23) at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Moundsville.

The ceremony was emceed by David Hess, M.D., president and CEO of Reynolds, and included an invocation and benediction by Father Bruce Bevans of Trinity Episcopal Church. Terri Lyons, director of the B.M. Spurr School, and Megan Ondrick, 2018 class president, both spoke, while vocal selections were performed by Doug Petit.

The graduating students are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN to receive licensure as a practical nurse. Over the past four classes, the average pass rate of the NCLEX-PN for first-time test takers is 87.5 percent. The average employment rate of B.M. Spurr students is 96.8 percent. 

The B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing began in 1951 and is conducted by WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale. This 12-month course of study has state accreditation by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses and national accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

A fully qualified, professional faculty directs a course of study that includes classroom training plus valuable hands-on clinical experience at Reynolds Memorial Hospital and other healthcare related facilities.

The 100th class starts on Sept. 4. Applications for the 101th class, graduating in 2020, are available online at WVUMedicine.org/BMSpurr.
