Persons interested in learning more about the Lap-Band® procedure being performed at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center are invited to attend a free presentation at 6:30 p.m. on June 26 in the Health Sciences Center, located on the Berkeley Medical Center campus.

Robert E. Cicchino, Jr., D.O., a general surgeon with WVU Medicine Surgery – Berkeley, will provide an overview of the Lap-Band® procedure while explaining the pros and cons of the gastric banding system. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions at the conclusion of the seminar.

This minimally invasive procedure takes typically less than an hour. Under the direction of Dr. Cicchino, Berkeley Medical Center began offering the procedure in 2011.

The Lap-Band® System with adjustable gastric banding is the only FDA-approved weight-loss procedure for adults who want to lose 30 or more pounds and whose weight is affecting their health. Some insurance companies have limited coverage for these types of bariatric programs.

To register for the free presentation, call WVU Medicine Surgery-Berkeley at 304-596-6900. For more information on the Lap-Band® System, visit www.LAPBAND.com.
