Chase installed as president of national pharmacy organization

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Patricia Chase, Ph.D., dean of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, was installed as president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) at the AACP annual meeting held July 26-30 in Grapevine, Texas.

The AACP is a national organization comprised of accredited colleges and schools of pharmacy that represents the interests of pharmacy education. Its mission is “to lead and partner with our members in advancing pharmacy education, research, scholarship, practice, and service to improve societal health.”

Dr. Chase served as the AACP 2013-2014 president-elect. She will serve as 2014-2015 president, and 2015-2016 immediate past president.

Chase has been active in the AACP for many years. She has taught at the Academic Leadership Fellows Program and has been the keynote speaker for the event for the past 10 years. She has served both as chair and secretary of the Council of Deans and chair of AACP’s Women Faculty Special Interest Group. She was the lead editor for the “AACP Dean’s Compass: Practical Advice for Achieving Excellence” and served as a facilitator for the Institute for Pedagogical and Curriculum Change and the AACP New Teacher’s Seminar. She also participated in the development of the AACP Education Scholar Program, for which she served as author for two of the web-based modules.

“It is a tremendous honor to have been installed as the president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy — an organization that represents all 130 schools and colleges of pharmacy in the country,” Chase said. “We are facing tremendous challenges in academic pharmacy with attention to affordability, accountability, and access issues in both higher education and healthcare. My goal for my presidential year is to position academic pharmacy to respond appropriately to these challenges.”
